On March 31, 1913, Faisanterie Buitenlust, the forerunner of the current modern animal park Burgers' Zoo, opens its doors to the public for the first time. Since its foundation by Johan Burgers, the first owner and the one who named the animal park in Arnhem, the park has always remained a real family business. Already from its inception the zoo caused a sensation due to its daring new organisation, which naturally is in the way the animals' accommodations are shaped as well as in the way the experiences for the visitors are created. Burgers' Zoo has a rich history, which has shaped the zoo into the way it is today, and as you can still find it now in the wooded area just north of Arnhem.

Well its a very nice zoo, which has a lot to offer but it also has some setbacks. Its difficult to navigate..if you follow the signs they often direct you through the bushpart.. which is hot and moist (bad for glasses) We normally find our ways in zoo;s without trouble but it was very irritating we always seem to have... Hi guys, I have visited many europian zoos and this one of the best. The entrance was pricey; the atmosphere provided by the planting and layout was natural and well maintained ; the enclosures were on the whole excellent partly due to the separation by plants; the rainforest and desert and safari were awasome. In the rainforest area is a... More

I think this zoo is very nicely laid out. The animal cages are large, so the animals have a little more space than elsewhere. Especially the Ocean and the Safari are very beautiful.

it's beautiful. The safari part is as close to African safari as you can get (and I have been in Tanzania for Safari). it's easy access with the pram. you don't have to walk a lot in between animals. it's super friendly for the kids. we loved it.

Fantastic animal enclosures and great animal visibility. Complete immersion in several habitats and unique perspectives. Lots of incredible species in brilliant settings. Great mixed species exhibits and amazing day out for families. Lots of trust put in the public to not climb in to enclosures which would have been easily doable but visitor area is just as aesthetically pleasing as... More

I have visited many uk zoos and this beats them all. The entrance was reasonably priced; the atmosphere provided by the planting and layout was relaxing and natural; the enclosures were on the whole excellent partly due to the separation planting; the rainforest and desert and safari were fantastic . I loved the cafe area overlooking the safari ( it... More

Really an incredible zoo, especially love all the indoor areas, the ocean, bush and desert. Unfortunately the restaurants and catering facilities are in desperate need of more variety, this part of the day was a flop.

They try to make it as natural as possible for the animals, but animals don't belong behind walls. There is a zoo, a safari, an aquarium and a jungleside.

We had a really great day out it was my second time visiting the zoo and with a 15 year gap in between visits. Loved the bush experience waterfalls and free flying tropical birds was like being on holiday in a lush rainforest. Also loved the raised 'Safari' walkway, don't feel the need to go to Africa to get up... More
