The Castle of Breda (Kasteel van Breda) is a stunning landmark, just north of Breda cosy city center. The castle used to be the grounds owned by the founders of Breda and of the Dutch Royal Family. Nowadays the castle is used as a university complex for the Dutch Department of Defence, to educate and train their officers. The attraction can only be accessed with a guided tour from the VVV tourist office (located at the Grote Markt) for a small fee. Nevertheless, visiting the complex is impressive. The castle consists of several buildings. The castle is located in the center of the gounds and was rebuilt in the 1700's. The walls and defence works of the castle date back from the middle ages and underneath these complexes undergound tunnels run under the city (only a few are accesible). Finally, the Spanjaarsgat offers a great view in on Breda's harbour and is one of the few remaining acient defence works Breda has to offer. If you are visiting Breda, don't miss this attraction!

This castle is now the academy for the army and police (gendarmerie), closed to the public except on special occasions. The main building is the Brecht building, which is he oldest stone building in Breda also. Inside you can find paintings from the history of the country and the town.
At the entrance of the building some famous names are curved to the bricks, such as the commander of UN/Dutch troops in Srebrenica (Thomas Karremans). The graduates used to carve their names there, until it was forbidden.
There is a F16 fighter jet on the terrain and also a small chapel.

The Kasteel Van Breda is a historical piece of the city and is not home to the military and police academy. It is not something that you need to seek out to see it however it is a important piece of history to the city itself so it should be appreciated for that. Interesting in that aspect

Since it’s closed to the public, you can only see a portion of the outside. It’s fine, but not much to see.

This castle is now an education institute for the army, and closed to the public except on special occasions such as Nassau day. Most of the castle has been turned into a barracks building, which doesn't look too special. A highlicht is the Brecht building, which is said to be the oldest stone building in Breda. Inside there are two paintings of scenes from king William's 10-day campaign against the rebelling Belgians, of battles at Leuven and Hasselt. There are also decorations awarded to admiral Van Speyk, who blew up his ship (including himself and his crew) when it was about to fall into Belgian hands. On this Nassau day there was an enactment of the peace treaty of Breda (350 years ago this year, 2017). There is a nice F16 fighter jet on the terrain. One can see the old towers from the inside. The names carved in the stone of the entrance gate are noteworthy, with some famous names such as Karremans (famous since Srebrenica) and Couzy. The graduates used to carve their names there, until it was forbidden.
