It's a must see on your trip in The Netherlands. Modern art museum with a great Kandinsky collection (always check their website for current exhibitions).

I am no fan of the way this museum shows works of art. Nevertheless the museum is of interest, als it has been for decades. Thus do not hesitate visiting it.

Henri van Abbe was a Cigar maker, art lover and philanthropist. Be prepared for some of the most unapproachable art you've ever seen. Be prepared to learn and enjoy on the basis of époque, the artist's backgrounds, the setting, the quality of work. In this city of design, this credible cradle of technology, the Abbe Museum is a proud icon,... More

Van Abbemuseum is really for the "very" modern art lover. It is a beautiful building, a mix of old and new. If you don't love modern art or are not willing to spend a bit of money to see something new then try a different museum. Some of the exhibitions I loved where others weren't my style. Enjoyed the cafe,... More

The Van Abbemuseum lies on the east bank of the river Dommel, close to the city center. Founded in 1936 by art lover and local cigar manufacturer Henri van Abbe it has about 2700 works of modern art. In 2003 an extension, designed by Abel Cahen, was opened. This extension has a magnificent central stairway which goes 5 stories high.... More

Not exactly cheap for an adult and if you're not a fan of modern art (particularly conceptual art) you probably won't be impressed. The staff were very approachable and knowledgeable, and clearly enthusiastic about the subject. The building is stunning too - it snowed when we were there and standing in the section over the river with the snow billowing... More

Our student group went during a particularly interesting Russian design exhibit. The museum is beautifully designed, very modern addition was put on an older building. The cafe is quiet nice for lunch. We had a lovely salad and coffee there.

This museum reminded me of everything I hated about my art school time. The pretension, the emphasis on "concept" (and aesthetics and skill being dirty words apparently) and the incestuous "you have to be in on it to understand it" attitude. I think they lost me right at the start with the installation “Informational Weather” by Sarah van Sonsbeeck. An... More

If you like modern art this museum is for you; if you dont its not. Also be careful for the guided tour; unless you find art extremly interesting you WILL be bored.
