No words can fully describe or define a trip to this gem. The staff, the detail, the history, the atmosphere, the rides the fun! Our second trip from Dublin and it will not be our last. There is works going on at the moment but it is still the most special place on earth to us, even took 2 extra 14 year olds on this trip as its too special not to share! Until next time Thankyou for allowing us to forget reality for the past 3 days what you do is simply sublime.

Our day started with Baron 1898 which immediately blew us away with the overall storyline and experience. Moving to other coasters, this remained the same: incredible theming and great ride experiences. However, the coasters are not all there is to offer; there are immersive dark rides and fun water rides that made us laugh and were worth the wait! It was a relatively busy, hot day but it didn’t feel packed and there was room to move without being right up against people. The queues were not unbearably long and the theming inside the queues was mostly interesting and took our minds off the waits themselves.

We’ve visited several times before so we knew what to expect. It is a great park with attractions for all ages - that’s what makes it so special; there is something for everyone. There are very fast paced rides and also lots of gentle rides and family shows. There was a lot of construction work happening when we visited and, as a result, I felt that it wasn’t as magical as it had been in the past. We missed walking through the main entrance and the diggers and construction noise took away from the feeling of escape. Also, our favourite rollercoaster was out of action. That said, we had a great day although it was very busy.

We have stayed at Efteling before, several times and always enjoyed it. The park is very large and has a number of rides that I would never go on, but my grandchildren love. That means that they turn you upside down several times!

The park is popular with the Dutch, naturally, and close to the Belgian border so there were plenty of cars with ‘B’ number plates, but fewer Brits, probably because it is not so well known in the UK.

Efteling’s theme is Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and many of the green areas, woods, walks, gardens, and plenty of the rides, have themes surrounding the famous stories.

The accommodation can be in the hotel, in the Bosrijk holiday village (our favourite) and in Loonsche Land, a similar complex of countryside houses. There are woodland, lakeside and replica Dutch village houses to choose between.

They are all of excellent design and standards with all of the equipment you may need. What we found very irritating was that there was no electric toaster, so that we could use it at breakfast time. We had a dishwasher, but no toaster! With most people staying for the park’s established pattern of two or four days at a time, and with many choosing to eat out on occasions, the dishwasher was hardly necessary. But no toaster!

I asked at the reception desk and was told with a straight face that ‘Dutch people don’t eat toast’….which was of course rubbish. So the message must be that if you are going to Efteling, take your own toaster!

That small (but irritating) point to one side, the food and beverage selection at the park, in its Bosrijk restaurant and in the casual on-the-go outlets in the park were pretty good, if a little expensive.

We found that the standing-in-line for the rides problems that you face at Disney, are not nearly so protracted at Efteling, yet thousands were there over the Easter period when we were there. An hour for The Baron (the grandchildren said it was the best) was the most we found.

The park also gave residents in the holiday villages a half-hour head-start on the main gates opening, which was invaluable for the children to get on the big rides early.

The staff were good, welcoming (despite the guy who denies the Dutch eat toast), and efficient; wi-fi was free and everything about the complex was quality.

To be recommended.

I have been visiting Efteling my whole
Life (34 years). Yes it was busy as it was Easter and you had to queue but all theme parks would be the same during a holiday season.

The App helps you plan the day and queue times. To be honest the park has doubled in size since I started going so we stay there and spend 3-5 days at the park at a slow pace to bath in the delights the park has to offer.

Others mention smoking. I am not and have never been a smoker. I didn’t see any smoking issues except the odd person in a queue. It’s not policed brilliantly but the Netherlands is not like the UK in regards to smoking so you have to accept the culture.

The park is beautiful and well maintained. The food is lovely and priced as per any theme park. The staff are helpful and accommodating. The holiday was a package at their bosrijk village and was moved 4 times due to covid. We had no issues with customer services once. We didn’t want a refund as we were happy to move the booking. Most companies will not issue refunds due to the mass losses they have occurred so personally I see no issue in a free moving of dates as it means they can survive as a company.

Thank you Efteling for a wonderful family holiday. Adults: 8 children: 3 ages 2-73 so perfect for all.

1st visit in this theme park based on Fairy Tales originally. We went there on a Wednesday and it showed that the park was medium in terms of business.

We were with our 5 year old and thought there was a good deal of attractions adapted to her age, mixing both dark rides and fun/ sensations rides. We thought the park was really clean and well designed with loads of pleasant landscaped gardens. Of course there was some works going on (for instance the entrance building was re-thatched so not accessible) so the entrance was probably less impressive and pleasant than usual.

Waiting times were reasonable (never more than 20 minutes) for the family rides, but it was way more for roller coasters (that we did not experience as we were with our young child).

The Efteling app is really well done with waiting times indicated, walking times to the next selected attraction, and if you click on the walking icon it even shows the route to get there! So I warmly recommend you to use it in the park.

My favourite attractions were Sirocco (basically like the cups in Disney, but with boats in the storm with pleasant settings - look up!), the 100 year old steam carousel - charmingly old and magic, the flying chairs, Fabula and Droomvlucht (dream flight with elves, fairies and trolls). Symbolica was not too bad either, but I am not sure how much of a difference it makes between the 3 options: heroes, music and treasure routes.
In the Volta House we definitely lost our bearings and it was slightly distressing, even for me, but we had been warned! The 2 waiting rooms were really boring there as we don't understand Dutch. It was just waiting without context...
I liked the atmosphere of Fata Morgana but must admit the representation of the 1001 nights is really too dated: only old and ugly men are represented (starting by beggars!), the only women are either a belly dancer or women locked in a harem!

My daughter really liked Sirocco, Festival (the equivalent of It's a Small world in Disney), and Max and Morritz (fast train on tracks / safe coaster).

We spent ages in the Sprookjebos (fairy tales forest) and it felt a bit too long and too much of a maze to exit this bit easily, but my daughter liked it.

For food we went to Toko Pagode, and it was ok. Portions were generous, but we mostly enjoyed the cherry trees in bloom.

There were plenty of toilets around, which were relatively clean, and without queues.

All in all it was a pleasant day.

The public is mostly Dutch, so comments in attractions to help you wait are all in this tongue, but from native friends I have heard it adds up to the atmosphere, so we definitely missed that bit.

PARC is brilliant, rides are fantastic. However it blows my mind that an childrens theme park is still not smoke free. The whole day even in waiting ques people around you are smoking. Not against smoking at all, however in a park like this it should have been done already. Please Efteling chance your policy, ridiculous that this is not implanted yet.

I have been coming to the efteling as long as I can remember. I really love the park which offers everything for the most perfect day out.
My personal favourite is the fairy tale forest. The tales are set in a lively and beautiful place. They renew it every other year so that the perfect efteling atmosphere is still present.
A day in efteling can't be complete without a unox hot dog.
