About
The Overloon War Museum is the biggest WWII museum in The Netherland. Right here, the tank battle of Overloon unfolded in the autumn of 1944. The village of Overloon was totally devestated back then. In order to remember the casualties and victims of that episode the museum was founded in 1946, even before the village was rebuilt. Nowadays over 100,000 people visit the museum every year. The first exhibition is about the occupation of The Netherlands from 1940 till 1945. The second large exhibition, displayed on 10.000 m2, contains over 150 military vehicles and artillery, both from allied forces and German. In addition to these two main exhibitions there are several smaller presentations, of which the Battle at Overloon presentation is definitely worth a visit. A museum restaurant and a shop completes this museum, which can be found in the so called Liberty Park in Overloon.

Top notch

This is a great museum. A very impressive static display of vehicles, mirrors, bridges, bombs. Lots of pantzer and aircrafts, weapons, canons. “Schwerer Gustav”. (An enormous gun; the diameter of the barrel was 80 cm, the shells had a weight of 5000 kg) Also included is some history of the German occupation and its affects on the local Dutch families that were affected by it. Interviews with survivors.
Allow plenty of time to get round the huge variety of hardware, all in a bright modern space.
Good overview on WW2 activities in this area of the Netherlands.
Visited with teenagers (my grandchildren) they were very impressed.
A visit can be highly recommended. Pitty that teenagers and seniors do not get a discount.

Schliek

Surprisingly Good

3 hour return journey to get to this museum so hoping it was going to be worth it, and it was!
As per previous comments, English text is available as you walk around through your browser on your phone. Free WiFi enabled. It worked ok, and I only had to completely reload it a couple of times so it was reliable.
Interesting approach to the museum in that it tells the story of war through different peoples eyes in different situations through the Dutch lens.
Plenty of vehicles on show which is the main reason we went so it didn’t disappoint.
Routes complying with social distancing rules are clearly marked out and people seemed to pay attention to it.
If you’ve had your museum card extended, it may be best to take your letter with you that you received in the post. My other half didn’t and then had to pay the entrance fee.
Car Parking is free.

Great, but no written English
Feb 2020
Great museum. Much bigger & very interesting. No need for a tour you can just walk around yourself look & listen to everything, but you can't read anything. Found it bizzare it's the first museum that did not have English to read. Dutch is understandable, but only translated in German. Would have helped & much better to stay in longer to read a lot of stuff, even though we already spent 2.5hrs there. On the positive side, it was better than I thought & lots to see

Thank you for your visit and also for review. We appreciatie your opinion and the four star rating. Also, we would like to respond to your remarks. The museum has two main exhibitions: one about the occupation, one about the liberation. The occupation exhibition has text panels in Dutch and German only, but is supported in English by a mobile website which you can access through our open wifi. Texts on this website can be read by yourself or you can listen to these because it functions as an audio guide as well. The liberation exhibition has panels in Dutch, English and German. All in all, we think there is room for further improvement. So, we will continue on this tri-lingual way as the main (military) hall is always 'work in progress' for us.

Impressive collection of WW2 equipment

Good overview on WW2 activities in the area of the Netherlands.

Visited with family including teenagers which were very impressed, as well as parents who experienced the war in that area.

Many memories came back, and many stories were told. Several collection items were recognised.

A visit can be highly recommended. Pitty that teenagers and seniors do not get discount.

Hello, thank you for your visit and your kind words. About discount, you are right that there is no discount ticket for seniors. But for kids up to the age of 12 years we offer discount tickets, and for families we do have family tickets as well.

Large collection of war vehicles
Dec 2019
Generally I likes the museum, it has a lot of interactive parts and a huge collections of war vehicles and armors. The only minor side, as always, not even single note about Russia and it's role in Second World War. And only one T34 standing somewhere in the corner, hard to see behind other vehicles. That's a true pity.

A must see...
Nov 2019 • Friends
I was here once when I was a kid! Now after so many years went there with my best friend. It’s really ‘a must see’. When you see all the stuff that happened during WW II, it will bring tears to your eyes. Very impressive👌🏽

Remarkable assembly of militaria from WW2 plus film shows. Allow plenty of time to get round the huge variety of hardware, all in a bright modern space. Nice cafe as well.

So much to see!
Sep 2019 • Family
We travelled with our 15, 12, 10 year old boys. Along with my in-laws, we a short 1 1/2 hours here which wasn’t enough to get the full experience here. My boys were in love with all the vehicles and artillery that this museum has. “I have to come back here” my oldest said. You would need at least half a day here so you don’t feel rushed if not a whole day to pull in everything. A must if wanting to see WWII history! Limburg has many other things to offer besides it’s beauty so you could spend a few days in the area.

Thank you! It is often hard to relate for young people to the concept of war, or to WWII in particular. We obviously would like to bridge that gap. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Therefore, it is so good to hear that your boys appreciated the museum that much. So: thank you too, guys!
