Alkmaar is a lovely city, with all the beauty of the canals and buildings, but without the crowds. The City Hall is an impressive building, right in the centre of the city, and it is just a pity that you can’t view the interior.

Listed as a major tourist attraction it's beautiful to see and photograph outside but disappointing that it can't be visited and no explanation why not. Thus it can't rate more than average in my book.

Alkmaar City Hall is beautiful. It is in the center of town, very close to the Big Church. The stairs leading up to the platform from both sides are nicely decorated. The tower is lean and high.

A hidden gem of holland - I preferred Alkmaar to Amsterdam; prettier, smaller, cleaner. Great cheese market, beautiful architecture and good boat trips...
