Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked the cheese and wine cruise for a Monday evening and thankfully had gorgeous weather for it. It was a lovely way to see the city, including the harbour area and Anne Frank's house. The captain was very imformative and we learnt a lot, particularly about the houses we passed. We were kept topped up with wine throughout the 1.5 hours, there was plenty of cheese and crackers provided, and they later gave us nuts too. It felt like a good length of cruise, not over too quickly.

The boat itself wasn't as nice as others we saw, and we were quite squashed sat around temporary tables rather than in fixed booths as I'd expected, but nevertheless it was a fabulous way to spend the evening.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! First boat reeked from the bathroom which had the strong stench of urine and poop, like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. An employee encouraged us to wait and take the next boat where we could get seats away from the bathroom, so we did. There were three couples in our group and we were the first to board the next boat. We all took forward-facing seats, but the Captain came came over to us and said one couple should move to backward-facing seats in case other passengers wanted the seats we were in. We were shocked (as were other passengers seated near us). We said we paid for the seats we were in and weren’t moving. After a ridiculous back and forth with the obnoxious captain one couple in our group agreed to move when the captain said the boat wouldn’t move until one of us did. In retrospect we should have just gotten off and demanded a refund. After leaving the dock the couple moved to empty forward-facing seats. A thoroughly unpleasant and needless situation created by the Captain who lacked any sense of customer experience skills. Between the foul-smelling first boat and the foul personality of the second boat’s captain, what should have been a pleasant highlight of our trip to Amsterdam was anything but. Be forewarned. There have to be much better options available.

Hi Rick, I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience on our boat tour. We're committed to maintaining a clean and comfortable environment for all our guests, and we'll be investigating the issues you mentioned regarding the condition of the first boat's bathroom. Regarding the seating situation on the second boat, I apologize if the interaction with the captain felt uncomfortable. Please note that when a boat is sold out not every guest can sit at the bench they desire and we need to find a seating where every guests will have a seat. When you are with a group but you want to sit seperately there is a change other guests will sit close to you or next to you. Can you send an email to online@stromma.nl with you booking reference so we can verify it with our captain? Thank you and Kind regards, Stromma Netherlands

This was a perfect introduction to the canals of Amsterdam. The captain was entertaining and informative. The covered boats were comfortable and made it easy to enjoy our time even though it was sprinkling during our tour.

We had an overnight stay in Amsterdam and decided to spend a few hours sightseeing. This just happened to be one of the first canal tours we saw when we left the train station. The captain was quite funny and entertaining. We listened to a canned tour in English, which explained what we were seeing, which was fine. They had the option to also listen in other languages on your cell phone. This presented a bit of a problem when a few families listened in their own language, on speaker phone. But the captain did address that issue and all was then well (for English speakers, anyways). All in all, it was a nice overview of the Amsterdam canals.

Travelling by canal around the city centre of Amsterdam is appreciably different to canal travel in England with its tight-squeeze passages and endless locks. The Amsterdammers’ more roomy canals and comfortable cruising vessels made for an enjoyable means of catching a slice of urban life in the Dutch capital. One fascinating tidbit I learned from the on-board guide was the way many of the city’s old, tall but narrow buildings had installed a system of hooks and pulleys on the outside, facilitating the movement of furniture and other large items in and out of the apartments – a testimony to the cutting through practicality of Dutch logistics.

Went on a 1 Hr cruise on part open boat with Lovers canal cruises. They seemed the easiest to find close to centraal station. We just checked online to see what cruise times looked quietest then went to ticket office 15 min before to get the ticket & get on.
As larger boats they stick to main canal/river. If you would prefer to go into smaller canal network you’d need book a cruise on smaller boat and pay for that. We chose the larger boat option as included with I Amsterdam card.
It was a nice way to spend an hour and it was nice to see the city from a different perspective.
They provide earphones which you plug into their audio system, this gives basic guide as you go round.

Multiple owners yet hit the oldest next to central station and on a winner. 1 hour at 13 Euro is a steal with a very clean uncrowded boat and a capt that knows the area

Great open boat - medium sized group with educated commentary. The guide was funny and knowledgable. Good coverage of the canal network at a competitive price.

Excellent tour with Sander this morning. We were looking for a a small open boat, no frills, smoke free, family friendly canal boat tour and found this to be perfect for us - picked up from pier 6 Damrak which is a great location for anyone based near Centraal. Would highly recommend. As a family of four (kids aged 11 and 7), we were joined by a friend from home and three American couples. Sander was very knowledgeable and engaging throughout with lots of historical information provided about the city of Amsterdam, it’s canals and buildings. Thanks Sander for making this very enjoyable!
