About
At one of Amsterdam's most famous parks, travelers can enjoy a host of outdoor activities amid beautiful English-style landscaping. Here, you can hike the countless trails or ride a bike around to spot charming bandstands and even a sculpture by Picasso along the way. Have a picnic by the pond as herons and ducks waltz past or pop by one of the many cafes in the park. You might want to visit between April and May to see the park awash with tulips in bloom or between May and September to watch live concerts at the open-air theater. – Tripadvisor

Top ways to experience Vondelpark
The area
Neighbourhood: Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

- ZedDubaiDubai, United Arab Emirates233 contributionsNice park that is quite massiveWe had rented bicycles from A-Bike Rental that is close by, as there are no bicycle rent shops inside the park. The park is quite massive, though there are lots of people cycling, walking or just relaxing. Little to do inside the park though, so we just cycled several times around.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 October 2023
- MKTBETopeka, Kansas4,090 contributionsLovely City Center Green Space!Unplanned circumstances allowed us to become well acquainted with Vondelpark in the heart of Amsterdam. We had Sunday reservations at both the Van Gogh & Rijksmuseum. We had no idea that the Amsterdam Marathon was being run that day! Sunday morning, as we tried to access the Van Gogh Museum, we discovered that we would have to use an alternate, longer route. We hurried through Vondelpark and finally found a bridge that took you over the participants. After our time in the museum, we leisurely walked through the park to then discover that getting into the Rijksmuseum would be just as difficult. Vondelpark is a beautiful green space in the center of Amsterdam!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 November 2023
- carolineannekennedyAmsterdam, The Netherlands1 contributionEuropean floral paradise!Spring is coming! Visiting Vondelpark during the spring season is a wonderful experience. This iconic park is blooming with snow drops and other spring flowers right now. We had a lovely stroll in the sun and enjoyed a take away coffee from one of the carts in the park. My 2 year old played with the ducks near the pond. When you walk here you know: life in Amsterdam is good. So don’t hesitate to visit this park if you want a peaceful getaway right next to the hustle and bustle of the city center.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 March 2024
- sunshinegirlDevon62 contributionsPretty parkVondelpark is ideal for a walk, cycle or run. We hired bikes for an hour (25 euro for 2) from Macs, about half mile away. This meant cycling on cycle lane to the park. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere within the park to hire bikes. We were looking forward to seeing lots of tulips in the park, being April, but there were hardly any, apart from in baskets in the lake, but otherwise, a lovely park.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2024
- K PastoreHinsdale, Illinois674 contributionsOutdoor GreenerySpectacular park with limestone paths throughout. You can relax near one of the water features or stroll through the trees. The weekends can be very busy with so many runners and bikers. It's a great place to enjoy some outdoor greenery.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 April 2024
- 17porto16 contributionsLovely parkBeautiful park not far from Rijksmuseum. During warm days a nice place to relax either in the sun or in the shade, during the evenings a lovely pretty quiet place for a walk, run or biking where you can hear the birds sing even in the middle of a city. There are a few place where you can buy something to drink but I didn't try them.Visited May 2024Travelled soloWritten 5 May 2024
- Alison KDublin, Ireland3 contributionsWell worth a couple hours to enjoy the sunshine!Really beautiful park, easily accessible via the trams. Had been scared to rent bikes and ride them around the streets of Amsterdam, but rented a few for a cycle around the park. It was amazing! If you do cycle around the park, make sure to follow the rules of the road (cycle on the right, indicate with hands before turning). The Picasso statue blends right into the park, such an interesting way to show that art is for the every day. Unfortunately we weren’t able to see any storks, however the island they are supposedly on still looked beautiful! We went mid day and it was busy, but not too crowded. Overall, a delightful park to visit.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 9 May 2024
- Todd RNew York City, New York37 contributionsIt's a Beautiful Park - But It is Just a ParkI went to Vondelpark twice. Once I went on my own and I also took a bike tour of the city where we biked through the park. It is a beautiful park to walk or bike through. There is not much to see except for the beauty of the park. There are lots of runner, walkers, cyclists, etc... in the park and the park is very well maintained. If I was to run while on my trip I would have definitely headed over to the park. If you are a photographer there are lots of beautiful views. If you want to just experience Vondelpark and say you were there, 30-60 minutes is more than enough. I would compare it to Central Park in NYC. There are people that can walk the 6 mile road in Central Park for 2-3 hours and love it or you take several hours to see the whole park and all of the areas, or you can say an hour in the park is enough to experience it and say you were there. It would also be similar to Lumpini Park in Bangkok.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 25 May 2024
- Ben WhiteNorthampton, United Kingdom3,228 contributions'It's slightly out of the centre but can be accessed from many different entrances.'I like to call it the Central Park of Amsterdam because there's so many things to see, from sculptures, water features and ponds. It's slightly out of the centre but can be accessed from many different entrances. The park itself is huge and there's many green open spaces so perfect for having picnics and catching up with friends. When we visited the weather was stunning, 25 degrees celsius to be exact, so it was very busy but there was still plenty of room to sit down and soak up the sunshine. Overall, a stunning park which is well kept and litter free. Would highly recommend if the weather is good and you're looking to relax whilst visting Amsterdam.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 May 2024
- BobN06Avondale, Pennsylvania721 contributionsNice park but watch out for all the bicyclesDid a walk through and indeed it is a beautiful park. On the other hand it is a regular bicycle thoroughfare and any peace you might feel has to be tempered by the constant vigilance for bicycles. Easy to pick a path but difficult to cross the main bike path.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 June 2024

Vondelpark is a massive park, Google Maps may seem confusing with different enter and exit points. I would say it is better to exit the way you came into the park in the first place! About the park, it is better visited in summer and spring, because I believe it will be a lot greener and with some flowers. In the winter, it wears a plain look which may look good in pictures, but not as much in real. We visited the place in winter and felt that we could have spent our time, elsewhere.
In the winter, there is activity but looks deglamorized with no scenery and greenery. So, you may see cyclists, people walking around, running and dogs hopping around, and statues here and there. There are not many places to eat save for few places like Blue Tea House (check my review). I would say plan something else instead of coming here and wasting precious few hours, in winter. If it is summer or spring, you can by all means, visit Vondelpark.

We've visited here twice, once in may and a very hot day and second time in Feb where it was cool and occasionally rained.
In may it was busy and people sitting on the grass and in Feb it was quiet and people out cycling, with their dogs or goin for a run
There are a couple of places to eat and drink and there are toilets as well.
It's a beautiful place, especially in summer when the water features are on.
A must place to visit.

Good place to stroll around on a weekend! From Amstelveenseweg on one end to Leidsplein on the other end its hardly 3km. The place is a bit crowded with people lying on the grass and around water area. Works of art are scattered around the park. The most notable of these artworks is Picasso's Figure decoupee.

We were lucky enough to be staying only a short distance from the Park so we had easy access. One thing you notice in Amsterdam is that the locals love their green space. Always busy with cyclists, walkers, joggers and families plus dogs!
The park is quite large with different areas some more wild than others. There are plenty of water features, ponds and fountains with usual inhabitants ducks. Loads of parakeets flying around, home from home we live in Kent get green birds in parks. The absolute best bit of our visit was seeing Stork nesting in protected area in middle of park, up on tall post wow dont see that everyday.
This is a natural park not Kew gardens but it is a great open space. We saw a open air theatre where there appears to be concerts at certain times. There are childrens play areas. We stopped a couple of times at the cafe in centre of park, self service, for beer and coffee and just sat outside under trees and watched world go by. If you have a Map you can exit the Park to see various small attractions, nice church and some Royal Horse palace, anyway an old building with equines. All in all nice oasis in busy city.

We have small children and found the playground at the Southwest end (away from the City Center) was a nice diversion for them. The ponds are serene and trees are tall and beautiful. Lovely for a bike ride.

Heard so much about this park that we had to check it out, located in the center of the city close to Leidseplein where eateries, bars, shops, clubs and movie theaters are. The park is big with walking paths throughout and a main paved cycling, running path around the park but still in the park. Watch out for commuting cyclist!!

A very picturesque park, we cycled the length and back at around 5pm when it seems all the locals were using the park as a cut through commute.
Be warned that it is not easy to stop in order to see the art pieces because of how busy it is. We had to ride way out of the way to then turn around and cycle on the opposite side as there was just no way to stop and cross safely.

I first went to Vondelpark over 20 years ago as a backpacker and then again last month (July 2023) with my family — and both visits were highlights during my visits to Amsterdam. The park was exactly the same decades later, in all the best ways.
Not only are these gorgeous grounds lush with flowers, greenery and the backdrop of water and beautiful buildings, it’s also extremely clean and stunningly well cared for. Even with many people there, you still feel a sense of peace and reprieve from the busy city that surrounds it. It’s the perfect spot to have a picnic, read a book, play with your kids or just walk around and clear your head. If I lived in Amsterdam (a dream of mine), I’d be at Vondelpark as often as possible.

hello - what is this park like in November? I will be here Nov.20th and am wondering if it will be too cold to enjoy, and if all leaves/trees will be dead. Anyone go in November? Was it just as lovely?
Written 29 September 2019
Hello, I went to Amsterdam end of November/beginning of December two years ago and it was beautiful, Very autumnal - ie cool but not freezing. I walked around without my gloves and hat but best wear a good warmish coat in case as the park is very big so takes a while to walk from one end to the other. I don't remember a play park but there is lots to see. Look out for the parakeets!! There is a café within the park but also at both the entrance/exit to the park there are loads of cafe's/restaurants.
