Top ways to experience Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat and nearby attractions
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

The first time I visited Amsterdam, I stayed on Pieter Cornelisz Hooftstraat and I was doing it again. Much has changed from that first stay 25 years ago. In a big way. A street, that to me, once seemed a bit seedy, is now lined with high end designer shops. Bring lot's of money. This is one of the most expensive shopping streets in the Netherlands. Some of the designer names you'll find include; Prada, Hugo Boss, Hermes, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Bally, to name a few. One store that kind of stuck out, a brand I like, was Woolrich. Go figure. The hotel I was staying at on this street was a short walk from Amsterdam's Museum District as well. Walking around in the evening, the area felt safe.

Okay, I admit I am not a shopping fanatic. If, however, you are looking for the "creme of the crop" as far as designer clothing, this shopping street is the place to come. The nice thing about the stores here are that for the most part, they are not "chain" type stores, so you will find a lot of one of a kind pieces, and there are also a lot of Dutch designers. Bring a lot of money because quality does not come cheap.

If you find yourself in Amsterdam and you love designer clothes, shoes, bags etc. then you Must bring a visit to the P.C. Hoofdstraat. This is THE designer shop street of Amsterdam where you will find Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Tiffany&Co, Tods, Hermes, Armani, Bulgari and many others. You can get there with Tram n.2 or 5. You can catch these trams at the central station but also Leidsestraat. If you need a break in between shop-hopping you can sit down at one of the nice/cute bars/restaurants in this street.

A walk along this street is a pleasant way of seeing the other Amsterdam: no canals but pretty boutiques, and well remodeled or newly built stylish houses. You can at any time turn on your left and head to the large Park nearby, an oasis of greenery which allows for relaxation away from the crowded streets of the inner city.

We went to Paris to buy a bag but were not entertained properly. When we went to this LV store in Amsterdam in pc hoofstraat, we really felt that there was no discrimination at all. The people were so nice and accommodating. Shout out to Julien who was such a lovely person. We did not regret buying in that LV branch.

Very rude and unhelpful man in Louis Vuitton store in dam square by the name of Quincy. Shop a lot in LV back in London with great service. Had to call LV customer service who were just as useless. Won't be visiting again.

I suppose you can get excited about the area if you are not traveling on a budget. Good place for window shopping and to see how the other half live😀

It is a street with all branded things. Though 2 a 3 times a week I pass this street, I visit it only 2 a 3 times a year and that is when I have guests from Asia. I still can't understand why all my asian friends always want to carry Louis Vuitton's bag. I'd rather buy a ticket to Hawai than spending more than € 1.000 for such small bag. I'm not crazy enough.

We stayed here, in a gorgeous apartment right above Tiffany's last September. I loved to open our windows and people watch, while sipping wine. Window shopping was fun but that's all I did, I'm not as fancy as the models and Dutch celebs I was watching. ;) looking below, it was common to see a Ferrari jet by or Rolls Royce, no biggie. If you like spending lots of $$$ then this is the place to shop. Louis Vuitton, Ogre, Hermes are just a few shops all on this little cobblestone street. We stayed during Fashion Night Out (Vogue) and I loved watching from my 5 story apartment as models paraded down the street, followed by a marching band. There was an Italian guy that sang with a guitar right outside of our apartment and he even looked up to me and sang to me and tried to wave me down. Lol, fun street to stay on, for sure!
