This is a lovely district, hinting of life in 1700s Amsterdam. Narrow streets, unique shops and eateries, architecture of old. Not a touristy area, this is where locals live and do business. Quiet, shade, and great opportunities for strolling photographers to find pictures.

The Jordaan is by far and away my favourite part of Amsterdam. It’s got an ultra cool and trendy vibe and full of little ‘off the beaten track’ gems, where you can get nice food and nice beer without paying tourist premiums! Lovely place to...More

The area takes patience to enjoy as you will need to comb through all the streets to find the gems (shops or food stores) that appeal to you. But when the weather is nice, a stroll up/down, side to side, through the streets of Jordaan...More

As an Amsterdammer, I keep going back to Jordaan when I want to explore the art and sculpture scene in the city. This area has some of the best artist studios. Of course, there is an advantage when you head that way. You also get...More

Amsterdam is a mosaic of different pieces and the Jordaan must be visited to complete the picture of this interesting, vibrant and historic city. It is a complete contrast to the bustle, glitz and shock value many visitors find in the red light district. This...More

The Jordaan is a bit out of the way but easily reachable by Amsterdam's trams. It is quieter and less touristy than the areas nearer the inner canal ring. There is an assortment of restaurants, shops, and shady places to enjoy a snack or beer...More

Historical area of immigrants who settled in this area to make a living. There are lovely old pictures from the 1900s that show the residents selling the goods.

I would definitely spend time in the Jordaan. The neighborhood is quaint charming and quieter than other areas. I also enjoyed the fact that our hotel was in this neighborhood. Away from the frantic shopping and redlight. Its a must see area in Amsterdam. Plan...More

Best to talk than take the canal rides to pass this neighborhood. Beautiful green patch alongside the canal. The canal is lined with unique and beautiful structures. One can sit by the canal for hours or get into a quint beer shop. We spent a...More

Jordaan is minutes from the city centre but has a completely different feel to it from the centre of Amsterdam. The quirky bars and restaurants and laid back and relaxed. Worth a look wish we had had more time there.

One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and
some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two
of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll
through this especially convivial warren of narrow
streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and
quality galleries. Historically a haven for the
working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is
better known as an enclave for artists and designers.
