I biked around Jordan, stopping every now and then to admire the quaint houses and the beautiful canals. The neighbourhood is quite peaceful and away from touristy Amsterdam, though do spot a tourist every now and then :)

Jordaan is calm and peaceful despite being 10 minutes of walk away from the centre (which is the busiest part of Amsterdam). Jordaan has beautiful streets and quaint apartments packed into each other. We explored the area walking 1-2 hours and it's a great refuge from the busy city centre. It's the Amsterdam which is without tourists and hence more... More

A wonderful collection of streets with an array of shops, quaint apartments , restaurants on streets that are almost intertwining into each other. It is an interesting walk through the neighbourhoods that come alive in the spring and summer. The days and evenings are fun to sit outside and watch people walk by... while enjoying a coffee or beer or... More

The Jordaan and the Western Isles districts of central Amsterdam may not have buildings of the elegance and splendour of those on Herengraacht or Kaisergraacht but they have a unique charm and low-key splendour all of their own. This is also where you see the most quirky house-boats, especially in summer when barge-dwellers really mine their inner gardeners. There are... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
