I absolutely loved the Jordaan neighborhood. spent 10 days in Amsterdam and pretty much walked around the Jordaan almost daily. the area is so pretty, loads of canals, shops, restaurants, pretty store fronts....the vibe was so fun and relaxed. What i loved about it is that it didn't feel heavily touristy and busy/hectic. there was definitely a steady flow of... More

We walked many of the side streets and checked out the multitude of hofjes and gables on our way to the Noordmarkt and Winkel 43 for pie. Interesting streets included Bloemgracht, Tweede Leliedwarsstraat, Egelantiersgracht, and Prinsengracht. So much beauty and so many galleries to explore. Just wander and stop when something catches your eye.

The Jordaan neighborhood in Amsterdam is a jewel! It is picturesque residential section of the city, with seventeenth-century row houses, canals, delightful restaurants and easy access to the Anne Frank House. We loved this neighborhood!

We enjoyed just walking through the streets of Jordaan. Lots of cozy boutiques, antiques, lots of art or just curiosity to look though the windows of local citizens, who openly live on the first floor on the buildings.

Jordaan is lovely on a hazy sunday morning. Go there when the tourists are not yet awake and stroll trough a world that is at peace and so very beautiful. This is part of the city is mostly 17th century, many of the buildings are 450 years old. The bridges and canals are legendary. And if you like Amsterdam, you... More

The Jordaan is by far the most "gezellige" area in Amsterdam, once the housing area for the less privileged, now a hotspot for Gen-X youngsters and all kind hip and happening entrepreneurs. There is no shortage of ab-fab restaurants of all ethnicities and spending levels. Be sure to visit one of the many "folk" bars in this district, get yourself... More

Spend a couple of hours here an feel like you have experienced 'typical' Amsterdam. Not too busy, in December at least, and lots of locals. Plenty of small shops and cafes and endless photo opportunities with canals, bridges, bikes and splendid houses and houseboats.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
