Though well known, still a "must" for all visitors to Amsterdam. Stand on one of the many bridges overlooking this waterway and escape the crowds around you.

We rented a houseboat on the Prinsengracht canal for a week long visit to Amsterdam. This part of Amsterdam is both beautiful and convenient. It is close to the Central Station...about a 10 minute walk. However, by being there, you avoid the crowds and commercial...More

This canal area is a few miles long and changes completely as one approaches the Amstel River. Off Prisengracht is the museum area, the Ann Frank Museum and many streets leading further into the center city.

We loved strolling along this canal. The apartment that we rented for our stay in Amsterdam was here so we experienced a long stretch of it! Lots of charming cafes, houseboats, houses...a nice place to experience the lovely city of Amsterdam.

Lots of small shops hidden away amongst the houses. Great architecture Many old buildings from around the 1600's. Also the sight of Ann Franks house. Visit early as the crowds build up. Wait times can be over an hour.

Pity the cars are parked next to it rather than the pedestrian way, but with excellent bike paths and the need fir a footpath near homes I guess there isn't room for it all. Still a delightful canal to meander down.

Both the canal and the street wrap around the city center on the west, south and east. The Jordaan, where we stayed for a week on house boat in mMay, is in the west, Great neighborhood location.

A great walking city. Very safe. My teenage nieces walks on their own even deep in the night. If pickpocketting reaches the evening news, it says enough about the city. Have fun in amazing amsterdam.
