It is something highly popular with tourists and rightly so. It's a city tour which is enjoyable and informative. From seeing the extensive canal network of Amsterdam to witnessing houses in and on the canals, it is something one must experience.

Using the boat you can see a large part of the city on a different perspective. There are several boat cruises to choose from. The normal turistic one, the party ones and different paths.

You must do one of these cruises while in the city. It gives you a view of things you really can't see from dry land. And the light festival made the whole experience one to remember.

Well how can you go to Amsterdam and not do this? It is a must and is very pleasant seeing the buildings on each side of the canals and hearing the history of them. It is makes you appreciate the city so much more.

My company arranged for a canal cruise for me and my colleagues. The cruise was very nice and the lights were very pretty. However, it was cold, and the heater was not working. Also the windows kept fogging up so you couldn't see. One colleague sat where the roof was leaking and she was getting wet the whole ride. There... More

Going on a canal cruise is a must! You get a really different perspective of the city. Don't worry about which company, you'll get a good experience from most. Highly recommend going during a festival and seeing the art they place along the canals.

I enjoyed the canal cruise around Amsterdam. Host provided us with great facts. It can get quite claustrophobic however it's worth the money to go on one. Recommended.

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
