Good fun on a rainy day

Got to see lots of Amsterdam in a different light. Nice to sit out of the rain too. Informative and comfortable

We decided to do a boat trip even though the weather wasn't great . Very informative and learnt some history of the Amsterdam canals . The trip takes about an hour and cost 16 Euros.

It was nice to spend 75 min on the boat along the canals. We went at 16:15, so half of the cruise was with dark light and the lighting on the streets and buildings switched on, making it more fascinating. Good for having an overview of the city from a different perspective.

Whilst visiting Amsterdam we went on a 1 hour canal cruise around 8pm which was recommended by a member of staff at the hotel we stayed at as they have a fantastic light display, and she was right! It was beautifully lit right the way down the canal also a tour guide with lots of information along the canal. Buildings... More

We booked an early morning cruise to take full advantage of the 24hr I Am Amsterdam card. The staff are super friendly though expect you to listen to the commentary via headphones rather than speak to you. There are a wide range of languages to suit most and the kids pirate channel was great to entertain them. A great way... More

Bought in with another deal. Boat was full. Give earphones to tell you history of the city. Was a good cruise. Had lights up for lights festival. Do the cruise in all different languages. Enjoyed learning things about the city.

We did the canal tour, while their was an art exhibition set out on the canal with lights and various moving pieces. Only slight problem was the condensation due to the windows all being closed as the weather was very cold and damp. The boat had the tour in lots of languages and the narration was clear, informative and concise.... More

We succumbed to a canal cruise after spending hours on our feet. It was well organised but oh dear, hardly enlightening. The narrative was recorded in about 5 different languages, very tedious not like the hop on hop off buses we have used in other cities. Yes, you get a different perspective from the boat, and the captain knows how... More

I would not recommend at all the City sightseeing Amsterdam hop on hop off. More than 30 mins waiting in Amsterdam Central station. Too expensive. Guided explanation hardly that same for boat and bus

Staying in Red Light District (De Wallen)

Neighbourhood Profile
Red Light District (De Wallen)
To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to view some of the city’s most picturesque canals, historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples of traditional local architecture – not to mention Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some less salubrious activities drawing the curious to this age-old part of time. Nevertheless, the Red Light District is still a very safe and incredibly fascinating area where at the turn of a corner you can be transported from the dingy glow of modern day neon red to a glorious 16th century Delft blue dreamscape.
