Really lovelly zoo, centrally located in the north of town, easy to get to on bus or tram, lots of animals with baby giraffe, baby elephant, baby chimp, baby gorilla, clean tidy and well worth the visit

We enjoyed a few hours walking around this lovely city centre zoo. It was a cold and wet day but this did not dampen the enjoyment. It was interesting to see the giraffe's trying to shelter from the rain under low cover. A walk through the wallaby enclosure was amazing too. Would recommend a visit.

I love zoos and this is one of my favorites. I went back in 2007, but I don't remember it being quite this great. I feel like they've really devoted some time to making the attractions great, even in the winter months. And the neighborhood around the zoo is really worth checking out.

Well what can i say? To start, the cost is nothing 16€, for this fee you get to see many of the animals up close, not hidden behind some pane of glass, many of the residents of Artis Zoo are actually free roaming, and those that are not are actually pretty close to free roaming

So refreshing that original building were incorporated into the landscape and there was NOT a vendor at every turn. I felt that we didn't have to dig into our pockets to purchase something or a souvenir.

It was raining on our visit to the Zoo which was upsetting - however it is just as perfect for a rainy day pretty much half of the Zoo is indoors which is perfect. Its a must see when visiting Amsterdam.

Found this place very reasonable at 20 euro, so much to see so me sure you're there with plenty of time. My only criticism would be that some pof the enclosures would be better suited to other animals, towards the end of the day there was a big enclosure which had a few birds in yet I thought the lions... Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
