Day out in Amsterdam

I wasn't expecting to find such a nice place to spend almost the whole day walking and having fun. There are a lot of animals and is very clean and organized zoo

I can rate this zoo as mostly mediocre. Not so many animals, and the zoo itself is small. If the weather is rather sunny and more or less warm, you can go. It it is freezing, better find some other location :)

I was actually pretty impressed with this zoo. The enclosure with the tiny monkeys and lizards etc is really good. About a 20 min walk from central but definitely worth a visit!

Great not to big zoo in Amsterdam with lost of different animals. Due visit the Micropia, you will need a seperate ticket, it is a great view on microbs and the lives. It has an excellent restaurant as well, with a great terrace in spring/summer.

We spent an afternoon here as we had an extended stay in Amsterdam and the Zoo was very close to where we were staying. My calling this an old fashion zoo is because it is one where most of the animals are in smaller confined areas or cages. You do get to see animals but then you have questions about... More

What can I say? It was truly amazing!! If you are going to Amsterdam with young kids then this is an absolute must. I cannot fault it. So much to see and do, kids will love it. The range of animals from the smallest ant to the biggest elephant, it was great. They had recently acquired a leopard the day... More

We noticed the Zoo as it was almost opposite our hotel. The zoo in not a large Zoo but it has some interesting exhibits, the building within the grounds are the original buildings and are listed. All in all it is a pleasant Zoo to visit

Having previously been to Artis Zoo, I wanted to go again (a year and a half later) to see if anything had changed. Getting to the zoo was just as easy as last time, number 9 tram from Centraal to the Artis stop then less than a minute walk to the zoo entrance. We paid 21.50 Euros each to get... More

Best of this spot is that is in the middle of the city; basically for childrens but you could go around and take a quiet and nice walk.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
