Begijnhof is the perfect place in Amsterdam to enjoy a respite from the crowds of the city squares! Yet, this is just a block or two away from the hustle and bustle of the squares. Perfect neighborhood to explore.

One of the main architectural attractions in ancient Amsterdam. Entrance to the courtyard is free. Come inside, walk around, take some pictures of this quiet square where only women can live since centuries. Skip the churches and the shop. Do not put your feet on...More

This beautiful neighborhood is a lovely retreat from the busy city. Stop by on the way to the Amsterdam Museum.

This is an island of quiet right next to the Amsterdam Museum. It's good to see how the Dutch provided for the less fortunate.

It is promoted as a place of rest and quietude. it was so when I first visisted 20 odd years ago. Now its sprawling with tourists and losing its soul and essence. Too bad ..

We returned to the Begijnhof after visiting more than 15 years ago; happy to report that the peaceful charm still exists within its walls, despite the rumbling city outside...

I believe that it is owned by their religious order. and it functions as a retirement facility for older women of that order. I gather they are slowly passing and there are no replacements.

It's too soon to say exact times for Easter but apparently the High Mass is at 12.15 and is held partly in English. Walking time is approximately 10 minutes from your hotel.
