Be sure to ask about the history of the bar and why monkeys!!! The Palm beer was absolutely amazing, but beware, they aren't watered-down like beer in the USA. Three beers was sufficient for the afternoon. They had an amazing flavor also! The owner was there and he was really quite a nice guy. Be sure to get a look at the photo of the young girl on the wall also and get the story behind that. Bathrooms were spotless! Service was spectacular! Location was VERY difficult to find. We stood right in front of it for probably 30 seconds looking for it until we realized it was right there!

Stopped in for a quick beer in the oldest wooden bar still around. Great selection of beverages and a very eclectic decorative style. Thoroughly enjoyed our beers before setting out for the day.

This is one of the remaining wooden buildings in Amsterdam, also one of the oldest pubs. It definitely has an atmosphere with lot's of decoration. It has about 8 small tables, and it seems it is always full. the bartender was kind, the selection of beers and other drinks is good.

I went to Int’ Aepjen to have the brown cafe experience. The beers were excellent and the setting unbeatable. The bartender was friendly and helpful. He informed me the bar was over 500 years old. The crowd was jovial and talkative and although I did not understand what they were saying one could tell it was a happy, inviting atmosphere. I would highly recommend this stop as part of a central Amsterdam pub crawl or if you want to admire one of Amsterdams oldest pubs!

We stayed at the NH Barbizon Palace hotel and were pleased to find Int Aepjen literally right around the corner from the hotel. Great spot for a cold local been on tap and for people watching on a beautiful sunny day in Amsterdam. Binky the cat was doing her typical cat tricks and the bartender was helpful describing the available beers.
Tip: When leaving stop to take a look at the façade of the building Int Aepjen is located. A very good example of old construction.

One of the oldest bars in amsterdam! I declared this place "my bar" during my stay here. I came here every night and had drinks and chilled with binky the cat and hans the bartender is really great! Such an exellent place with a sultry atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting this place. You won't be disappointed!

Dating back to 1560, when sailors apparently used to trade monkeys for more beer, this pub is unique. Stunning interior, a few stuffed monkeys, a story about the Hartlepool monkey hanging incident. Good beer. A one off. Must be seen.

Been to this pub a few times over the years. Love the old decor. Excellent selection of beers and it's very chill which is nice after long walks around the busy streets.

The barman was very helpful during my visit & the beer was great. It's very small so can get a bit crowded but has a great atmosphere.
