The area
Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Brewer's Canal is another wonderful canal in Amsterdam and quieter than the more popular Prinsengracht, Keizersgracht and Herengracht that branch off it. Home to many breweries in times gone by, we came across it after a random Jordaan wander. Photo opportunities of pretty houseboats and crafts of every description appear at every bridge that criss-cross the canal.

There are many picturesque tree-lined canals in A'dam, but this one stands out, maybe because of the historic old homes that line the canal, maybe for how close it is to the Centraal Station, or maybe due to the proliferation of restaurants in the area. It can be very entertaining to plant yourself aside this canal and just watch the bikes, boats and pedestrians go by, just as they have (well, maybe not the bikes) for 500 years.

This area is not far from the main Central Railway Station. It is great to either relax in one of the many cafes and bars or just wander around.

Some great cafes and bars where you can sit and watch the world go by. A very short walk from Central Station. Also worth visiting the nearby Haarlemmerdijk and Haarlemmerplein.

In Amsterdam, my family and i stayed in Brouwersgracht 55, which was a luxurious apartment right in the city centre with an impecible view of the beautiful canal and streets of Amsterdam. what made our stay excellent in this apartment apart from the modern facilities and comfortable rooms were the hosts Menno and Pob. they were the most helpful human beings who always did their best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. they fully catered to all our needs and were genuinely happy to always help us out. I would highly recommend this apartment and would give it a 5 star rating as well.

the Brouwersgracht got ist name from the breweries that were located here. In particular in the morning, the sun is illuminating one side of the Brouwersgracht so that you can take great photos of the old buildings

Spent 5 days visiting in this area and it is an attractive, interesting place. The canal is interesting with many house boats etc. The buildings on either side of the canal are beautiful. There are a several bars and shops along the street. There was a great market on Sunday morning starting at the junction of Brouwersgracht and Palmstraat.

Taking a stroll down the streets lining the Brouwersgracht canal was an absolute delight. Beautiful houseboats line either side while bikes coast slightly past. Mostly residential houses line this canal which is a nice change from the busy streets of Amsterdam. The sunlight streams through the tree tops and shines off of the water as you watch the locals go about there day. Located about a 10 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal, the Brouwersgracht canal offers an absolutely beautiful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

one of the canals with the most atmosphere, because of the house boats I guess, and because all major canals start here, parrallel you have the Haarlemmerdijk with the nicer kind of shops and places then Kalverstraat or Nieuwendijk which it is the extension of. Noordermarkt is close with a nice church, and market every monday morning. Prinsengracht starts here and is the nicer canal because of the houseboats along it.

A minute away from Nieuwesijds Voorburghwal (= a main tram route) is this small beautiful canal without many tourists.
