Magere Brug is just another bridge, and Amsterdam has countless of these. The difference here is that this one is mostly made of wood and it has a very long and interesting history, particularly regarding the origins of its name. It's the Skinny Bridge, because...More

The story is nice, but there's not a lot to do overhere, other than admire the bridge, that hardly opens anymore. Funny is that when take a canal tour, they'll tell you it's the only wooden bridge left in Amsterdam, and than (500 meters further)...More

This view is the one made famous by artists in Amsterdam and the bridge structure is really historic and fascinating. Well worth seeking out

This is not the original skinny bridge from 1690's, not is it the 1800's bridge. It was built in the 20th century, but it is still worth seeing

Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge) looks like all the other bridges, really nothing special at all, not even worth a visit!

We stayed on a barge next to the bridge. The barge was a hell hole due to the heat wave however sitting on the deck watching the pedestrians and cyclists crossing the bridge was a pleasure. The location is superb.

Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge), is really trading on the name of a former bridge from 1691, which was supposedly so narrow, two people could barely cross at the same time. This bridge was replaced in 1871 by a wider one, due to the increase in...More

This bridge is not worth seeing. There is a much skinnier and interesting bridge going to the island in Amsterdam. It looks like several other bridges in the city.

One of many bridges in the city, but not one of the prettiest. You can take more memorable photos elsewhere, still OK.

Amsterdam has lots of bridges. This is one that your boat tour commentator will point out. Nothing special.

Depends where you start. If you take the Waterlooplein square as starting point, then it's about 10 to 15 minutes walking to Magere Brug. Same from Rembrandtplein. Starting from Central Station it will be a half an hour... More
