Address
Neighbourhood: De Pijp
Bustling Albert Cuypstraat serves as the main drag through De Pijp and the location for Albert Cuyp Market, the largest and most famous of Amsterdam’s many outdoor markets. Beyond this sometimes-frantic thoroughfare, tiny lanes beckon urban explorers in search of the latest trends and hidden gems. Nearly half the residents living in De Pijp are foreigners and a good number of them are students. Here you'll find a multitude of ethnic restaurants, great cafes and bars, and a brilliant array of locally owned shops, all catering to a broad range of budgets and tastes.

- Paul M4 contributionsWell worth a visit.Visited this market a couple of times whilst we were in Amsterdam. Great to walk through end to end with lots to see. Great variety of stalls with all sorts to eat. Lovely fresh fish stalls that cook it to order as well.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 October 2023
- Gary R6 contributionsBig, fun outdoor market in AmsterdanBig, fun outdoor market. Check-out the Shwarma stalls and also go visit the stall selling brownies (excellent). Ex-pat American making his own dark chocolate brownies, really good!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 October 2023
- MKTBETopeka, Kansas4,157 contributionsWe visited for Rudi's Stroopwafels!I am grateful that everything in the sprawling downtown area of Amsterdam is within walking distance, including the Albert Cuyp Outdoor Market. We wanted to try the best Stroopwafels in Amsterdam (Rudi's), and we were not disappointed! We also enjoyed wandering through the length of the market, appreciating the other vendors and their varied offerings.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 November 2023
- otlWelwyn, United Kingdom196 contributionsLoads of varietyWe visited on a cold wet Tuesday in January - so probably not representative of how the place really is. However, the market was fully operational and impressive with the variety of items for sale. The locals obviously purchase food and edibles there, and then there are stalls aimed at tourists. The food options were very varied, ranging from fruit and veg to fresh fish, artisan cheeses and even a stall specialising in game birds and meat. There were lots of hot food options also, obviously including the Dutch fries, which you just have to try! Along the outside of the market are some wonderful individual shops which would have occupied us far more if the weather had been kinder. Would definitely returnVisited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 February 2024
- PietaNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom107 contributionsWorth the visitHeard about this market from virtually every guide to Amsterdam I looked at. Strangely smaller than expected. We visited after a morning at a nearby museum and thought we’d try out the street food for lunch. Not every stall or space was occupied, but we found enough to keep us happy. The grilled cheese sandwich place was really good as were the fries from the chap at the very end of the market. We couldn’t miss Rudi’s Stroop wafels and bought lots as gifts too. For us, the best and cheapest you’ll find. For the rest of the market, there are a few cheap souvenir shops which were good for bits and pieces and definitely the best prices for clog slippers (the airports prices were almost double). The cheese stalls were very well priced too and seemed more genuine to the more glossy branded cheese shops on the Damrak and in central Amsterdam. There are of course other stalls selling various other goods ranging from from toiletries to cheap clothes and household items. Overall a very nice experience which served its purpose. Definitely recommend.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 February 2024
- DT27 contributionsAmsterdam's hidden gemGood market off the usual tourist routes with a selection of everything whether you're a local looking for fresh food or a stray tourist looking for an original souvenir. If you want an honest bite to eat in a proper Dutch cafe then try 'Cafe Koffiehuis "De Cuyp." (See picture)' It's definitely a locals place but the owner was really friendly and welcomes everyone. The food isn't flash nor expensive but, trust me, it's good. The apple pancake especially.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 24 February 2024
- SwedishtomcatDiss, United Kingdom4,606 contributionsStreet marketA plethora of stalls serving food, souvenirs, clothes, bags and nicknacks. We only purchased edibles starting with a workman favourite - the mackerel roll. Wandered along a bit and stopped for a homemade stroopwaffle. Since the weather was a bit cold & wet we then finished with a cone of frites (& mayo) to warm us up.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 February 2024
- TCountry2Mittagong, Australia898 contributionsOutdoor market with selection of goodsA mixture a stalls at this open air market. Easy to access via tram or metro. From souvenirs, jewellery, fabric, food, produce, clothing and much more this market has something for everyone. The area has lots of cafes and restaurants but there is a good selection of “local” food in the market itself. Not an essential must see in Amsterdam but it is worth a visit if you have time.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 30 March 2024
- thistle-do-nicelyKilmarnock, United Kingdom854 contributionsGreat Street MarketWe had excellent pita and sticky stroopwaffelen here. Also bought a few souvenirs and the prices were a lot better than the gift shops in the town. Definitely worth a visit and easy to get to as it has it's own stop on the tram line number 4.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 April 2024
- SunbeamKuala Lumpur, Malaysia14 contributionsRude Bakerwe heard about this venue and decided to check it out. There was a stall which has a variety of breads. The man at the stall wasn't very pleasant, in fact, i'm of the opinion that he is rude and not courteous to Asian tourists. It ruined our day. Will hesitate to visit again.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 April 2024

We ate the best stroopwaffles in the city from a guy that runs the family business and looking a bit like Benedict Cumberbatch. We didn´t dare asking for a picture but you can check yourself. Somewhere on a corner we entered another family business where we tried the raw herring with chopped raw onions and gherkins. My husband tried the Kibbeling. We took away some tuna and fish salad (best I have ever eaten in any restaurant I have ever been) Everybody was smiling and super friendly.
The market is so-so.... couldn´t find anything interesting to buy, many things are coming from China, cheap looking... It worth going for eating as there are many places to chose from.

During the recent lockdown, all the shops were shut, as a result by default, the open air markets became the place to be, especially this one, everything was in operation.
We find everything is reasonably priced and there is always a bargain to be had, fro veges to cloths, one stall had hot wine for one euro, excellent value. one of our faves is the chicken shop the cooked satay chicken is to die for. Also the guy that does spring rolls, they taste amazing with sweet chilli sauce.
This is a must place to visit, especially if you are staying in a self catering apartment.

This is not a place to wander about and experience anything particular to the region or anything very interesting. During our trip my husband's backpack malfunctioned and we found the perfect small day pack for him at this market. That was just luck, I can't recommend it for anything other than a Stroop waffle or maybe a snack.

We came here for a walk around, it was a raining day and unfortunately there isn’t really anywhere you can get undercover. The market stalls all have covers but they are limited and when it’s pouring down with rain you do get wet.
We came on a Monday and didn’t find there was tonnes of options most of the stalls sold similar stuff.
We went to a stroop wafels stall and had both an original and a dipped chocolate one if you are there you have to try both as they are so good and made fresh in front of you cost about €3 - €4 each.
We also tried bennys chicken which was good they have a few different options on offer and the value for money is good.
Worth a visit if your in the area.

I visited for lunch. It's easy to tell which store is popular because there will be a long line of people there. I sampled herring, stroopwafels, and sandwiches from a delicious local bakery. The prices were local prices, not tourist prices, so I could eat without worry.
Credit card guard was accepted at every store, which was very convenient.

There are lots of food stalls at reasonable prices. It is a long street with stalls along both sides selling food, fruits, clothes, housewares, etc. nice to visit for an hour. Please note that it closes at 5 pm daily and it is not open on Sunday.

A really fun spot! The outdoor market is a 3-block long area filled with everything you might need if your luggage got lost; clothes, shoes, toiletries, souvenirs, umbrellas, sunglasses. It is also chock-a-block with food vendors selling everything from the famous raw herring to stroopwaffels and baked goods. We bought some cinnamon rolls and almond pastries to munch, and Japanese okonomiyaki pancakes as we strolled. It is easily available by the metro (subway) or bus system. It is one of the places Amsterdamers buy their own household items, so don't miss it for a taste of the city.

Nice location near the centre, we were there two times in one week. The shops are nice with a lot of flowers and souveniers to choose from, but most of the shops offer the same stuff at a bit different prices. I have to add that if you need any souveniers, flowers or just smoking accessories, they have it all. You can also stop there for the dutch pancakes or cheese if you like. Just mind that it can get very busy.

Came here a couple of times for food, due to the close proximity to our hotel. There are lots of delicious food stalls which are great for the mid morning or afternoon snack (we got stroopwaffles, herring, sandwiches, juice, etc). There’s also some souvenirs here which seemed cheaper than you’ll find in the city centre. Overall, if you’re near and need a snack - definitely check it out.

I am planning to visit this market in the month of May 29th, will be buying the Dutch cheese, after that I will tour to Norway. Will it stay fresh without Refrigeration? I can always store it in the hotel room's mini fridge, but will be traveling by train/air from one city to another.

We brought home several varieties of waxed cheeses and had no issues. They were all packed into our suitcases inside plastic bags. We had no leakage and the cheese kept just fine without refrigeration for our trip back. You shouldn't have problems unless you're traveling to Phoenix in the summertime!!!

What days is the market open?
Written 25 January 2020
Good afternoon. The market is open from 9 to 5 from Monday to Saturday, but you don't want to get there by 4 because most vendors will be packing there things, as it happened to me. My tram was late and got there late. But there were still a lot to explore. I highly recommend going early like around 10 or 11. You can use these tram lines: you may take tram lines 4,16, 24 or 25 to get there. I hope this info helps you. Have a great time at the Market

Im thinking of going on a saturday in november! What time are the stalls and food shops open in the morning?
Written 29 September 2019
Hi, we were there going into summer months and we arrived about 10 am and they were setting up. I don't know if the times alter for different seasons. We took a tram there from out the front of Amsterdam central. The food stalls were all there in the morning when we visited.

Do they take debit card in Albert Market?

we traveled from Ireland, so for security reasons,we normally paid in cash and did not use our debit cards unless during emergency.
but some of the shops accept cards.
