Amsterdam's Jewish Quarter Small-Group Walking Tour

1,172 reviews
This tour makes it super easy to pack in a little daytime history in between exploring Amsterdam’s vibrant nightlife. Even if you’re planning on visiting the Anne Frank House separately on your own, this tour follows her path through the city’s the Jewish Quarter with a guide who’s well brushed up on his WWII history.

Make sure to walk down Nes, you find great bars, restaurants and hotels such as Rho and V here. They are fixing up a lot of the buildings here, gutting them out. We can't wait to come back to discover the new places!

Most tourists do their strolling on Rokin, but one block beyond the waterway, where the construction just seems to go on and on, is a different neighborhood entirely. Check out the low-cost restaurants and other businesses. This is probably not the best street to be walking on alone after dark. Watch out for the puddles of urine and/or vomit which mark where revelers have deposited the products of their evening intoxicants.

...and wouldn't recommend it unless you are a heavy sleeper, and enjoy the charm of tourist wandering about at all hours urinating and shouting each others names. On the plus side the location is great for shops, there are a couple of nice bars along the Nes and you're minutes away from Rembrandtplein.

It looks like a poky back alley, but explore a little and you'll find all sorts of restaurants and hotels, plus a little bit of peace and relative quiet just off Nes square. There's also the Comedy theatre and other venues. Seems to be very popular with locals. I can recommend De Brakke Grond for lunch and Van Kerkwijk for dinner.
