Cafe Sound Garden is a laid-back, chill bar. Great music with a pool table, friendly staff, and even a nice bar cat who may come by to say hello. The bar is very approachable for those who are visiting Amsterdam. Recommended for a relaxed night.

Discovered this place on a previous visit, it once again became my first stop for a drink (after a brief visit to the funky munkey opposite). It's a music themed bar with paintings of rock legends as the decor. Beer is good and cheap and it is smoker friendly, It's off the beaten track which gives it a more local... More

This place It is a bar...ok? Just a bar! People come here to listen to good old music, drink a beer and play some pool. What makes it excellent is its people, the atmosphere and the music. So, if you are a good modest person, you will like it. If not, stay in the red light district.

Cafe sound garden is an inconspicuous but surprisingly nice little bar/cafe. The menu is typical Dutch (beer, some hard liquor, tea,...) though what sets this place apart are the mini football table, the pool table and a more hidden little backyard where you can enjoy a relaxed evening! During the summer this should be perfect!

A down to earth, unpretentious spit and sawdust bar with great beers and lovely staff. The terrace out the back overlooking the canal is fantastic for a chill and a toke on a sunny Amsterdam afternoon. The clientele are generally a laid back, eclectic and interesting mix of Dutch and internationals. Pool table and pinball machine are a bonus. One... More

Just a pit stop and although its next to the canal and the weather was nice, its a little grotty. We only had a beer and left. A lot nicer places

The bar is a bit grungy, dirty, smelly if you sit indoors - it has a nice outdoor seating though, on the canals. Good for a quick beer/smoke; otherwise, there are plenty of better options around.

Stumbled across this by accident on my first stroll around this year's trip to amsterdam. Great atmosphere, good beer and a great place to sit by the canal with a beer and a smoke.

Great place for an afternoon beer in the sun. There's many great bars in Jordaan, but this is up there with the best. Well worth a visit.

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
