Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Westerpark and Wester Gas factory are a nice place to retreat to but only if you have time to spare. The park is well kept and if you've walked the Haarlemmerstraat, its only another hop and skip away.

Nice park for a Sunday walk. Feels far from the city yet it’s very near. Interesting art and location altogether

I enjoyed this park much more than Vondel Park. This park is much less crowded and lots of places to sit and watch for birds. Good walking path with ponds and lots of trees. It is quiet and relaxing wonderful place to relax.

The Westerpark is a wonderful green area in the West part of Amsterdam. It's a place full of opportunities for those who want just a calm walk to breath fresh air or bike in a agreeable scene, as well as for those who look for excitement.

The park also houses some nice cafés and restaurants as well as a cinema and a art studio. Besides that, often there are fairs that attracts a huge number of people. This weekend there is a festival centred in street food from trucks, gathering at the park all sorts of different food, such as; Argentinian grilled, Fondue, Mexican, Indian, Spanish tapas, Korean food, Japanese, Hungarian, Fish specialties, Dutch salty food, dutch small pancakes ("poeffertjes), brownies, donuts, drinks and a whole more. It's said that there are 100+ trucks parked there. Besides that, there are lots of bands playing all over the place.

However, if you don't like places full of people, avoid going there when there is a special event, since then is when the park becomes crowded.

Arguably the best balanced park in Amsterdam. Vondelpark is much busier (too busy, too touristy, no BBQs allowed), Oosterpark is prettier (but too small, you have done it in an hour), the Westerpark has it all. Something for everyone and you can easily spend a half-day there.
- a field big enough and quiet enough to play football or fly a kite (not on a busy sunny weekend perhaps)
- some wild adventure areas which the kids will love
- couple of lakes, one with a floating statue in
- you can hire an electric boat and cruise the canals
- 2 tennis courts (free to use)
- open air gyms
- a fair sized safe paddling area for small kids
- a children's zoo
- great variety of bars, restaurants - it's good at night as well
- a cinema
- and best of all you can BBQ on a weekend, and even when it's busy (which is only on those sunny weekend days) everyone gets on
- it's lots of locals

I lived for couple of months in the "staatsliedenbuurt" district, just 4 minutes from this awesome park, so I used to go there with my friends to relax and enjoy the calmness of this park..it's more local thing and during the summer it's very lively...runners, bikers... and there's nice bar/concert/market places situated in the old buildings of the westergasfabriek... (North Sea Jazz Club!! and Sunday Market!!). During a sunny day, it's really beautiful.

At the large grass field you can chill without the crowded crowd of the vondelpark and at the edge of the park is a large area with hidden treasure restaurants and bars. U can also visit the tv studio's

Lovely maintained park. Lively with a lot of people. The park has a great place to have a drink too. Sit at the water and enjoy.

I went here during our holiday with my daughter. Great park with nice plants. There are many playgrounds for all ages. (My daughter is 3 years old, the loved all of them.) I read they also have a petting zoo, but we didn't find it. Maybe we didn't look good eneugh... :D Public toilets are in the park and you don't have to pay for them. There are many restaurants and cafés where you can eat and drink. Hint: If you come by car, leave it in a car park. ParkBee in Van Beuningenstraat is very near (5-10mins by foot) and really cheap for amsterdam (3€ per hour). You can find many parking spaces for free, but a local told me not to leave the car on the street because it will be stolen very soon!!!

Westerpark is huge! You can walk from one end to the other for a prettier way to get across the city. It's so big, at many points you can barely hear the traffic and can instead enjoy the sound of the many birds inhabiting the park.

There are lots of things contained within the park grounds, including a cool retro-gaming bar & restaurant called "De Ton Ton Club" - worth a visit while you're there. Then there is the Gashouder - an events venue, I believe, and some other bars and cafés.

There are a few water features, including a man-made modern stream to sit by, and ponds inhabited by many ducks, geese and herons. There are also a number of statues and modern art features dotted around.

Somewhere in the middle there are even public barbecues, and it's not uncommon to see local families and groups having a picnic or party, with music from the biggest speakers they can find. All in all, a great atmosphere and a wonderful place to relax away from the hustle and busy of the busy shopping streets.
