Neighbourhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

How do you find a quiet, comfortable place to stay in a big busy city? Easy - choose a real neighbourhood. We are staying in a real, 400 yr old building, outside the city centre but within walking distance of the train station and all the major sites (for decent walkers). Very nice architecture, hardly any cars, lots of bikes, and peace!

At the risk of sounding like a heathen, if you're staying or visiting the area it worth looking at this area as it is pretty, but if you are staying elsewhere, I personally would look at the building in the area you're in rather than making a trip especially here. While I did enjoy, I was staying 5 minutes walk from the precinct

The building with read shutters is nice and there are a few cute ones, but if you are short on time in Amsterdam it is not worth it. It is far from Downtown and not as interesting as other areas in old town. I would visit the old Windmills and some other cities like Edam and Volendam instead (they are further away from the city but worth going for sure).

I hesitate to tell anyone else about this charming island oasis. We stayed here for a week and absolutely fell in love, as you can walk everywhere. 5 minutes to the Jordaan area, trams, etc, yet you are living in a very quiet residential neighborhood. We just loved it.

This part of Amsterdam is really special. This small island has a few streets with beautiful architecture, "pakhuizen".
It's a quick stroll and just walk a bit further to visit Realenisland.
Every season is an open atelier day then you can visit the ateliers of artists who work here.
Very near Central Station and Haarlemmerstraat for great places to eat, shop and chill.

Prinseneiland is one of small islands in the former west harbour of Amsterdam. The storehouses with big windows is an eye-catcher. From outside you see old buildings but when you're inside, some of them were changed into moderne houses. Many artists live and work in this area. The location is not far from central station. You can take the bus 18; 21; 22 from central station and stop at "Buiten Oranjestraat" (2 stops), then you will see some studios under the railway "tussen de bogen" and one of these arches is the entrance to Prinseneiland. Nice place to walk around.

An island in the old habour, close to Westerpark (a visit worth for relaxation) and the Haarlemmerdijk with all its life and shops. The island is a quiet world with houseboats and former stock buildings, now dwellings for all people and artists. Take a slow walk on a sunny day and enjoy the atmosphere.

I loved walking around this small island, looking at all the houses. Also enough green bushy spots here to take a leak when nature calls you...
