They helped so many persons at the risk of their own lives. And to be able to forgive their offender. Wow !! the guide for the english group on the 26th of April 12 pm was absolutely delightful, so interesting to talk with. I recommandVisited April 2023Written 28 April 2023

- Karen MAssiniboia, Canada40 contributionsTouching and inspiringI’ve wanted to visit this home ever since I read the book, The Hiding Place , in my teens. I was not disappointed. If you are not a religious person you might not like the focus on the family’s faith and how it inspired their efforts in rescuing Jewish people from deportation. However, I was inspired by it as a young person and the lady who led our tour picked the best points of the ten Boom family to share. It was truly inspirational for my daughter and I. Even if you have not read the book or watched the movie , we were given enough information that the tour is worthwhile if you are interested in stories of Holocaust rescuers.Visited June 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 June 2023

So many interesting things we learned. I had known of Corrie growing up and had just read the book, "The Watchmaker's Daughter". The guide gave a sensitive summary of the history and events during this time. Some of the family’s photo’s and possessions are here, which made it very personal.Visited March 2023Written 7 August 2023

I had booked our tickets months in advance for an English speaking tour in the middle of the day. We were met at the door right on our arrival time, invited in to the living room to which our superb guide told the story of the family for around half an hour. The tour then moved to the upstairs room where the Jews were hidden. Everyone had time to take a moment in the hiding place and take pictures. A very sobering but incredibly moving and memorable tour. It's truly amazing that this story isn't better known throughout the Netherlands.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 18 August 2023
- J T1 contributionHeartwarming and HistoricalHeroes of the Resistance - Heartwarming and Historical. We traveled across the world to see this incredible sight where people persisted during the worst of times and we weren't disappointed. It's true that they were motivated to help others because of their beliefs and they were able to make it through the loss of several family members and horrible happenings all around them due to their strong faith. It would be impossible to separate the family's faith from their deeds and their story. But it's true that if you are very anti-religion, you won't want to hear this story. If you do want to hear about the best of people's capabilities and coping through challenges and tragedies, then you will probably very much like this story and this tour. I would also strongly recommend reading The Hiding Place which goes into much more detail. One practical note is to book your tour well in advance. Also, I felt it was very appropriate to donate for this free tour. (We've paid entrance fees to so many places that it's refreshing that it's free and there wasn't any pressure, but it seemed like a good idea). If this is a true story that you failed deserves to continue to be told then I would encourage you to donate even if you aren't able to visit in person. One final note on this long review is that the town of Haarlem is beautiful and spending a few extra hours here is a joy.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 December 2023

This was a major highlight of our trip to The Netherlands! We have read a lot about Corrie from her books and another recent book called "The Watchmaker's Daughter" (highly recommend before you go). The tour guide was excellent, and we really felt like we were "guests" in Corrie's family home. The tour took about 1.5 hours, and you do need to reserve online in advance. There is no specific charge for the tour, but there is a place to make a donation. The stories from the tour guide were excellent - they held our attention and our kids' attention as well. You can take pictures, in most rooms, unlike at the Anne Frank House. My kids were even allowed to race from the first floor to the hiding place and see how long it took them. It is fantastic to be able to actually go into the hiding place itself and see what people had to go through during the war. It brought so much together for us as a family to see where Corrie and Betsie and her family helped so many people during the war. Make sure you do not miss this tour!

Expected to learn about HOW this family hid and saved Jewish people. The majority of the tour was about events in the Bible, Jesus being the savior, progressives/liberalism is bad. I felt like I was being preached to. Tour was supposed to be 30 minutes but took an hour. I was completely turned off and ready to walk out. Haarlem is so lovely. Don’t spend your time here unless God/Christianity resonates with you

An amazing experience - the place where a Christian family’s faith and risk ( two of them died) helped hundreds of Jewish people escape Nazi death camps. Excellent volunteer guides and no charge.

Learning about this remarkable family was one of the highlights of our stay in the Netherlands. Motivated by their Christian faith, they risked their lives to help hide Jews from the German occupiers during WWII. This action cost several of the ten Boom family their lives. They could have remained quiet and been safe, yet they worked to resist and save the lives of others.
Touring their home and seeing where this happend, standing in the "hiding place" was something I will not forget.
Their faith is at the center of their story, so if you are uncomfortable with this, maybe find something else to see. If you are open to learning of faith in action and putting others above self, come and learn.

I agree! I visited the Corrie ten Boom House several years ago and came away with a renewed respect for that family and the sacrifice they made to hide Jews who would've been killed. The religious nature is part of their story and I am in awe of their selfless faith. I hope to visit soon and take my husband there but tickets are very hard to come by. Is there another way to get tickets besides the website?

Is it possible to visit without a reservation ?
drmarkstravels
Rochester, MN73 contributions
Yes, you could attempt to visit without a reservation, but most times each group is limited and is full. Remember, that each group that goes in at different times may be led through tour in a different language. Their website will list the various language tour groups and times for each group. If you did not wish to make a reservation but wanted to attempt to still get in for your language group, then show up at the side door. Sometimes people who have made a reservation do not show up. In our group there were three empty slots and the tour guide let the "extra people" come in.

What exactly do you get for $256? Picked up from your hotel, driven to The Corrie Ten Boom house, a tour & then what?
I’m obviously missing something. We will be there in October! Thank you.

Hi, tour lasts about an hour but depends if there is another tour behind you or ahead of you, on our day we caught up with tour in Dutch and had to wait outside one room. Not a problem and did not reduce our enjoyment. Do get in queue outside a good hour beforehand as first come first served and numbers limited.

Not sure what time it closes, but you can only access this museum on one of the guided tours. Due to the limited space, only a small number of people can access at any time. I highly recommend booking a place on a tour (available in English or Dutch) the avoid disappointment. visit the website for more details.

We are going to the Corrie Ten Boom house in late April and the English speaking tours are alread sold out. The only English speaking tours remaining are first come first served only. How early should we arrive at the house in order to get one of the 20 "first come, first served" spots for my wife and myself. Thanks.

We had the same problem when we wanted to visit and we arrived 20 min early but there wasn't a line yet. The town the house is nice to walk around if you arrive early and want to spend some time there before the tour. We sent an email and got a quick reply on 2 spots that opened up for an English tour. Maybe just send them an email close to the day you are wanting to go on a tour.

Je kunt idd niet reserveren. Gewoon op de gewenste datum en tijd er naartoe gaan en meestal is er dan wel een plekje...
Succes, dit museum en het verhaal is echt de moeite waard!

What; is the best way to get to Haarlem from Amsterdam? Are there other places to visit while in the city of Haarlem?
Diana B
London, UK28 contributions
Hi and I believe it's only a short train ride from Amsterdam to Haarlem. I went straight from Amsterdam Airport on the number 300 bus which takes about 40 minutes and the buses run frequently. Highlights for me while I was there too were the Frans Hals Museum and the Teylers Museum. The main cathedral is lovely and I attended a free evening organ recital. Just walking around the city is a delight. It also has very good shopping.

I didn't reserve tickets on line....I walked up and saw the schedule on the door. It will show what language it is in. Then we walked around until it was time. Do know - they are small tours I think 20 max. So if you are not in line and the first 15-20 people you will not get in on that tour. We arrived 20-30 minutes prior to the tour and we were already #10-11-12! Check out their facebook page....you can always message them to see if they are open during your specific dates.
