Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Dever House is a late medieval residential tower, also called a keep. Such a defense tower was usually also inhabited. In the tower that we now see before us, in addition to living quarters, we also find a knight's hall and a chapel hall. House Dever was built in honor of and named after Reinier die Ever (1346-1414), a knight who owned several lordships, including Lisse, Dever and Sniedeldijk. He was also a local administrator for some time, such as councilor of Rijnland and bailiff of Nieuwburg. House Dever was built around 1370.. a moated residential tower with several floors, semi-circular and closed on one side. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the tower building was expanded with a front house, which was further enlarged around 1630. This created a large castle-like house, connected to a much older keep. House Dever was inhabited until approximately 1775. The residential complex fell into disrepair at the beginning of the 19th century. The residential tower also fell into disrepair, but was restored and rebuilt to its original height at the end of the 20th century. Only the newly exposed foundations of the front house remain. Beautifully restored medieval residential tower, worth visiting.

We came across this small castle in Netherlands built around 1400 in village Lisse. This was built by member of old noble family from holland. Thus truly depicts as to how dutch noble people used to stay at that point in time. Its well preserved.

Historic and intriguing house. Lucky to meet a very well-informed guide fluent in English who was a font of fascinating facts.
As you climb the steps inside, it's so easy to imagine yourself part of the history.

Every month we cannot resist a visit to the lovely spot called the very old tower of d'Ever, the garden is in spring a must for the specialists. The vedgetable gardens are kept neatly and a walk over the premises is rewarding. An interior visit gives a peek into the middle ages and the steep stairways to the upper floors. History alive!

They are not open every day and might be closed for special occasions, so read first.
These are the remains of a larger house and interesting to see/hear the historical background and importance for this area. If you cannot go inside, there's only the donjon, nothing more. plan a visit and see the history, it's worth 30 - 60 minutes of your time.
