Windmill Village
Oct 2019
It is called Zaanse Schans. A village along the Zaan River. It is at the north east, 20 minutes driving from Amsterdam. Or the bus 391 from Amsterdam central station ( the bus station is at the back side of the station on the 2nd floor) will bring you to Zaanse Schans in 30 minutes. From the morning to end of the day it is always crowded with tourists from all over the world. Most of the windmills are still working. The windmills are spicemill (making mustard), 2 sawmills, 2 oilmills and one is the only remaining working windmill in the world which makes paint. Besides windmills, there are some museums and shops such as : Zaans Museum, Clock museum, old bakery museum, a small foundry shop, clog workshop (with a small museum), 1st Albert Heijn shop ( now is a grocery museum), cheese factory and farm, a retro sweet shop, a diamond shop, a chocolate shop which you can make your own warm chocolate drink, a bicycle bell shop and of course some souvenir shops and some other museums. Sometimes there is a Cosplay of the local tradition. In the summer we come very often in the evening for bird watching.

Great experience
Jun 2019 • Couples
A 40 min trip by the car to this lovely historic place is a MUST when you are in the Netherlands. You will be able to rent a bicycle or take the canal ferry trip between the historic windmills.
A great site to visit for families and couples.

Beautiful country side !
Mar 2019 • Couples
The tour of windmill farm was booked by our tour agency, we were on a visit to Amsterdam during our honeymoon. Luckily we had got a break from the rains and wind...and we could roam around the farm freely.

There are 5 major windmills which are working. One of them is free and the others charge for entry. You also have a wooden shoe making factory which has a live demo and an exhibit of various types of wooden shoes. You also can buy them if you like !

There is also a cheese factory which has various kinds of gauda cheese available for sale. A demo is also shown on the cheese making process. Apart from cheese, you also can buy organic mayo, honey etc...

The farm is also a beautiful place to take pictures and enjoy with your loved ones. I would recommend to set aside 2 to 3 hours for the visit.

Visit atleast one of the windmills
May 2018 • Couples
We have 10s of operational windmills in Zaandam and I would suggest you to visit atleast one of them. These show us how to live in tandem with nature without harming it. we visited the flour mill and its associated shop.

Amsterdam/ Volendam
Oct 2018 • Couples
Visiting the iconic city of Amsterdam a must see attraction is... Volendam. Volendam is unlock any other place you will ever see, beautiful scenery/ nature & also the local history of Holland’s farming, which they are still using the same unique farming concepts today. Worth the time to see this amazing part of the country

Majestic Windmills everywhere you look
Apr 2018 • Friends
I have always wanted to visit ever since getting a little delft plaque, with a windmill on it, as a child. The sight & sound of them all is awe inspiring especially on a blustery spring day. I really enjoyed climbing up one, despite the scary ladders, & feeling the movement of the sails - very powerful. It is fascinating to see what they have all been used for over the centuries. There are some great exhibitions in the village & good food in the cafes. I enjoyed the Museum but the Monet exhibition was a bit underwhelming.
It is very easy to get a train here from the centraal station but remember it is not included in the Amsterdam city ticket you need to buy a local rail ticket only a few euros. The walk from the station only takes a few minutes & is well sign posted.

Delightful area
Aug 2018 • Solo
The low review here appears to be for a particular tour rather than the area. Here you can find gorgeous views of windmills, houses, and sheep next to water that really are postcard quality. Some of the windmills will let you inside (for a fee). I was on a tour that included a windmill demo which was quite cool. Definitely worth checking out.

Terrible experience and tour
Jan 2018
This is a half day tour which does not worth the money and the time spent. The guides are totally unprofessional , dont know the area and cannot give any information. You can easily organize the trip by yourself .
