Nice even without blooms
Dec 2019 • Solo
Visited this during winter and love the garden with the backdrop of the church and cloister. It was nice even without blooming flowers. Worth visiting.

Simply Beautiful
Nov 2019
This is something that is easily missed. Situated on the side of the Cathedral, this garden / cloister is beautiful, peaceful and serene. So spend some time here to relax and get back your energy.

A historical landmark for the Netherlands

Having the opportunity to attend a PhD defense in this building, surely the experience was even better, as I could visit different University rooms rather than the pandhof. But just for the Pandhof it could worth a pick in.

A lovely little cloister featuring carvings of St. Maartin.
Dec 2019
We visited the cathedral (post-reformation so not a lot of catholic adornments) but enjoyed this little cloister. It was December so not a lot of plants, but still charming. No seats.

relaxing
Oct 2019
Visiting the adjacent church and having a coffee afterwards in their small cafe, we came across these tiny gardens. Quite small so not worth traveling a great distance to see them, but if you are in the area, it is worth 15 minutes or so to relax and take in the serene atmosphere there. It was so nice to see people there just relaxing quietly, Lost in their own thoughts.

Worth quickly popping in if you’re nearby

It’s a nice garden, particularly with the cloisters surrounding, but takes maybe 10 min to enjoy and isn’t worth going far out of your way to visit.?

Surprisingly atmospheric spot
Oct 2019
Arriving in Utrecht on a rainy Saturday afternoon we were disappointed to find St. Martin’s Cathedral (Domkerk) closed due to a concert and the Dom Tower unattractively clad in scaffolding. Undecided what to do, we entered a small gate in the church wall on Domplein and found this surprising enclosed garden and covered cloister, open until 5 p.m. The gate isn’t as old as it may look. It was built in 1894 by Joseph Cuypers in Gothic Revival style. The relief represents Saint Martin sharing his cloak with a beggar. All around the outer wall of the cloister we saw triangular reliefs with other scenes of the life of Saint Martin.

In the middle of the garden, which is divided in compartments by low hedges like a medieval garden, there is an attractive fountain with cute little dragons spouting water and, on top, a bronze statue (1913) of the 14th century cathedral’s canon Hugo Wstinc. In a corner we found a rather mysterious contemporary statue of a man surrounded by animals. Another mystery was the rope motive in the tracery of one of the corner windows.

Beautiful garden and corridors
Sep 2019
Don't forget to check this out when you are in the area. It is right next to the church and free to enter. The garden is very pretty and we loved walking around the corridor that surrounds the garden. Sit on a bench and rest your feet for a little while.

Inside the old convent you find this lovely little garden surrounded by the cloister walk. Sit down and relax for a while.
