Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The first time I visited this market was in 1992,
when I moved to Utrecht. The atmosphere was very different then. More fun and pleasant, friendly and cosy. You really had a market atmosphere back then. I visited this market again after a long time on a Saturday, but everything is so commercialized. The real market traders are no longer there (partly due to online sales). There is no atmosphere in the market anymore. I used to always buy beautiful clothes for my mother there. What you see now is that cheap, Chinese and Turkish rubbish of poor quality. The only thing that did me any good was buying a nice piece of extra matured cheese at the stall of De Gooische kaas koerier. Afterwards I ate a delicious herring with pickles at the fish stall of Jacob Dirk Ruizendaal. I also decided to take home a nice fried fish.
The market days are Wednesday, Friday (Organic market) and Saturday(the busiest day). This market used to be fun, but not anymore..

If you travel to Utrecht by train, it's virtually impossible to miss this market. For this reason, I would say there is absolutely no reason not to visit the market when visiting Utrecht, because you can just walk along the stalls for a couple of minutes and in case you don't like it just move on. I find this market is quite crowded and there are quite a few stalls that mainly appeal to locals buying fish, meat, fruit, etc. (which is obviously perfectly legitimate!) If you are a tourist visiting this market my main recommendation would be to grab yourself some Loempia from one of the stalls, as they are absolutely delicious and maybe a Stroopwafel if you're up for something sweet.
So to sum up, don't expect to spend a lot of time here or find anything apart from some good food to eat, but definitely give yourself a minute to check it out.

Vredenburg Square holds host to a pop up market a few times each week, with stalls being assembled the night before each market day ready to be filled with various wears. As with all general markets you can wander around and find a wide range of different articles for sale with a wide mix of food, household and clothing.

I saw this market during my walk around the historic areas of Utrecht. Fish, meats, cheese, vegetables, fruits, fresh flowers, plants, etc are being sold here.
One of the vendors told me that they are open 3 times a week, on Wednesdays. Fridays,,and Saturdays.

This building is just magnificent. This is a permanent food market selling just about any type of food or flowers that you can imagine. There are also many permanent restaurants and cafes, where the food is just as good. The ceiling of the building is made up of brightly coloured panels with pictures of fruit and vegetables.
Well worth a visit if you are in Utrecht.

I wander through here periodically and never find anything worthwhile. It's uninspired food stalls and non-food stalls make for one of the dullest markets I've been too.

Lots of fresh vegetables, fresh fish and a variety of food stalls to wander through, taste and buy if you wish. We really enjoyed our visit here this morning and thought it was one of the better markets we've been to on our hoiday.

A nice variety of street shops that you can walk though. They are main'y food and flower shops. In the heart of the shopping district.

During our stay in Utrecht while we were walking we saw this very interesting flea market where we could find all kind of goods. Mostly edible goods. From Dutch cheese to unusual Dutch bread, sweets juices, fruits and vegetables and fish sandwiches. Also you could find postcards and other second hand stuff. The prices only a bit higher than usual. It is a nice surprise you can find during a visit in Utrecht.

Can anyone tell me if this market is open on Mondays?
Written 11 March 2017
Unfortunately not, there are no stands on this outdoor market square on monday. It's there on wednesday and friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and saturday 8 am until 5 pm. Hope you'll enjoy Utrecht nonetheless!
