THE LONGEST CHURCH OF THE NETHERLANDS The great fire of 1552 destroyed much of the medieval church of Saint John. Shortly after the disaster, the council commissioned the reconstruction of the most startling church of Holland. With 123 meters it is also the longest church in The Netherlands THE 72 STAINED-GLASS WINDOWS ARE WORLD-FAMOUS Entering the Church of St. John, one falls silent at the sight of the majestic space with the 72 world-famous stained-glass windows. That first experience will only get stronger when you see the marvellous light by the 'Dutch Masters' invading the Church. The rich history of Holland can be read in the large windows. It is a beginning of an impressive discovery along biblical and historical scenes of human emotions. Then you understand that the Gouda St. John is one of the highest rated attractions in the Netherlands!

Monday is not a good day to visit Gouda. As one waiter explained, they are 'Reformed', i.e. under the influence of the Reformed Church and many places are closed. Sint Janskerk, to give its Dutch name is a huge building with amazing stained glass windows and a terraced nave, surrounding the pulpit, which the longest in the Netherlands. Well worth... More

This church is so magnificent, and the stained glass windows are breathtaking! There is a nominal entrance fee and audio guides are available. It's one of the longest churches in the country. Well with the visit!

On our way from parking near Bestwestern to our restaurant we saw this beautiful church in the centre of the city, where I believe only walkers and cycles are allowed. The church being in the centre of the market place attracts everyone' attention with its majestic and architectural beauty. I did not find it open when we were there but... More

This is a must see if you pay a visit to Gouda. The entrance fee is a modest 5 euro. The church itself is nice but the stained glass windows are exceptional! You do not want to miss it!

The 'Sint Janskerk' (Church of Saint John) in Gouda is the longest church that exists in the Netherlands. The church has beautiful stained glass windows that reach multiple stories high. It is worth your visit (and your admission fee outside of service or concert hours). At the end of summer/beginning of Fall the church also organizes concerts on Saturdays.

The windows are famous and rightly so. A beautiful facility that requires at least 45 minutes to appreciate all the windows as you walk the perimeter.

A lovely church to walk round and take in the fabulous stained glass windows known as the "Gouda Windows". One of which features Philip II and his wife Mary Tudor of England. The church is the longest church in Holland and is well worth visiting.

Everybody knows about Gouda cheese and Cheese Market. But if you go just a bit away from the market, you'll find a church that is not very attractive from outside. But inside it's something really impressive! The most various and amazing stained glass themes I've ever seen. The whole stories are presented there. It's impossible to describe, if you are... More
