The plaza is one of the most beautiful place to visit, with its 16th century Stadhuis, many restaurants, shops and St. Jans cathedral.

This area is a great place to stroll around, lots of shops and restaurants and cafes to choose from. On Thursdays they have a market where you can get things like clothes food and artisan wares.

Could have been great but early September brings the Fair. Blocks out all the square are views of the buildings. No cheese Market..finishes end of August. Pick your dates better than we did.

Gouda feels like a quintessence of the whole Netherlands packed into one city. I definitely recommend the visit. Try to plan your trip on Thursday when the Cheese Market takes place.

With dozens of vendors, the crowd was busily shopping and everyone looked happy. We checked out one cheese shop on the square that has an unbelievable number of different flavors of gouda cheese; infused with herbs, spices, fruits, liquor, cannabis (yes, you read that right),...More

I went on a Saturday morning and the market was bustling with food and other vendors. Great location on the main square.

I believe Thursday and Saturday is farmer's market days and Sunday hosted a comic book affair. We were not there in the first half of the week,so don't know first hand.Maybe they have a local website with information?
