The 800-meter cable-stayed bridge with one hinged pylon is a real symbol of Rotterdam, a city that rose from the ashes after the barbaric bombing of the Luftwaffe in 1940. Perhaps this should be the symbol of the city with the largest port in Europe and the most international population in the Netherlands. And the appropriate name is in honor of the great humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam. However, because of the 139-meter hinged asymmetric steel pylon, the bridge was nicknamed "Swan". As often happens, excessive passion for design led to problems with the stability of the structure and the bridge had to be strengthened after installation. Strangely enough, the bridge was built not in Rotterdam, but in Vlissingen and delivered to Rotterdam. The bridge was designed by Dutch architect Ben van Berkel, who was later suspected of plagiarism from Santiago Calatrava. The Erasmus Bridge resembled the one built 4 years earlier by his project Puente Alamillo in Seville.

Stunning bridge!

I am not usually a bridge person but I could not stop staring at it!

Looks lovely in both the say and night - a feat of engineering!

Very modern and nice looking bridge span even on a gloomy rainy day. Right in front of you when you come out of the Metro.

We enjoyed our long walk around the city. We started from Blaak then the old harbor then the pier area from the old bridge to the park and Erasmus Bridge. It was a great way to appreciate this part of Rotterdam. Wished we saw it at night too

Erasmusbrug has become an icon of Rotterdam. Apart from functional use, it adds a lot of aesthetic value to a city of modernity and innovation. Tourists may want to cross the bridge and experience Europe's largest port in their own eyes.

A beautiful view, which can be seen at many pictures, when you put "Rotterdam" in google, and I definitely wasn't dissapointed when seeing it in person. Even more perfect visit with the sunny weather I was lucky to have when I was there

Wow and Wow - makes you wonder at how they build these bridges - well worth a visit if in Rotterdam.
Traffic very busy and seems to come from every direction at ends - so make sure you only cross when you get the ok from traffic lights to walk,

Walking over a bridge is extra exciting, but with a wheelchair an extra challenge. Rotterdam has several bridges, this remains my favorite.
