Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were here many years ago for a Lang Lang solo piano concert. So it was really great to be back here today for the annual White Christmas at the Doelen Sunday Morning Concert in De Doelen in Rotterdam. This concert Hall still looks quite amazing after all these years if you were to ask me.Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year 2024!!!🎄🎄🎄

Great concert hall (Grote Zaal) with fantastic acoustics. Went to experience L'Orfeo (Monteverdi) an early17th century Italian opera with a happy ending libretto (Orfeo ending up in heaven despite his mistakes). Of course in those days they did not have microphones or sophisticated audio equipment, so the opera was -as it were- composed to fit simple circumstances. In De Doelen often the singers were not even close to a microphone and still the sound was perfect.

On a Sunday we were told to go here as there would be live music. There was not but instead, lay-back music. You order your own coffee which was excellent like the friendly attitude of the person serving us. We saw a mix of old and young, small and big parties, all enjoying themselves. They even had a huge screen where we could watch sports etc. Great as well that you are not being bugged all the time with staff whether you want to drink or eat something. We will come back. Opposite the restaurant are a renowned grocer and the IMAX (cinema). In the Doelen building itself, all sorts of cultural events take place for which you can buy tickets. A definite place to visit again.

Programming is very broad over all sorts of performing arts. The history of 'De Doelen' goes way back. There are works of (decorative) art in the building itself as well.

A visit to De Doelen is never disappointing. It is a great concert hall, presenting great pieces - oriental and modern as well as the old classics. That is one of the amazing things of De Doelen - its variety. It hosts many different groups of musicians and orchestras from all over the globe, with each having a distinct sound and vibe. De Doelen is a place to go to when one loves music and cannot get enough. Nothing is more poignant than listening to lively performed melodies, in which one can feel the emotion of the musicians one sees - and simply join their musical journey .

I understand that De Doelen was originally several venues that were joined together. As a result, it can be a challenge to find your way. But, the concert hall has great acoustics and is comfortable, there is an endless supply of alternate spaces and once you figure out the elevators and escalators, you are home free!

The Doelen is a post war concert Hall in the city centre of Rotterdam.
Is a huge concert hall with very good acoustics.
Since it’s that huge it would be nice to improve signage, also because there you can find no or hardly any staff to help you out to find your seat or a bathroom.
We once had a Rabo loge and there wasn’t any sign to help us out. It took us half an hour to find our seats; just in time for the concert.
Catering could also be improved.

I attanded a great congress in de Doelen. The lecture halls were big, the chairs comfortable, the technique functioned smooth. There are a few negatives too. The entrance hall is big, empty and unwelcoming. The escalators are narrow, it took some time for the several hundred participants to move between the various levels.

A repeat visit to listen to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra this time with
Schubert's symphone no4 and after the intermission, Mozart's "Requiem".
Orchestra, conductor Cristian Macelaru, the solists Lauren Snouffer soprano, Barbare Kozelj alt, Christian Elsner tenor, Geert Smits bas and the Laurens Collegium choir,
brought a spectecular performance before a mouse-quiet audience.
Apart from the music is this theater of a very special architecture with the orchestra
in the "pitch",
