This house was a marvel to walk round, each element had been thought of by the architect, even the fabrics for upholstery were part of the house's narrative.

Sonneveld House is a prime example of Dutch prewar architecture and it kind of draws comparisons to other modernist gems such as Villa Tugendhat in Brno, Czech Republic or Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan, Italy. Built in 1933 for a family of Mr Sonneveld, the...More

We nearly didn't go here but we really enjoyed seeing through the house. It cost 10 euros each which included the audio guide and apparently entry to the architectural museum, but we didn't have time. The Audio guide was great as was the subtitled film...More

A modernist interior with colour, style and comfort. Most of the original furnishings are here and are quite wonderful. Amazing how much modern tech is anticipated e.g. speakers throughout the home connected to one turntable, in home telephone intercom and more.

The Sonneveld house was a true joy to visit. Located near the other large museums of Rotterdam, this white villa is a wonderful example of a Dutch architecture style that is almost erased from our cultural conciousness. Everything in the house is designed with a...More

The Sonneveld house was built and decorated with only one thing in mind: mind the future. Built in de early 1930s, the house provides a fascinating insight in the state of affairs back then and both the permanent and perishable nature of views on the...More

A 30's villa in the style known as functionalism. The home is fully kitted out in (for the most part) the same original furniture and floorings it had at its inception in the 1930's and shows a completely different way of living for removed from...More

Well worth a visit, just a few minutes walk from the Boymans and Architecture museums. It is a wonderful and authentic interior from the time of original Gipsen furniture, very well designed and thought through, even featuring an in-house intercom system.

This is one of the best art deco houses I have ever seen. It is in almost original condition, and is one of the few pre-war buildings still standing in Rotterdam. The furniture is nearly all original, and gives a realistic impression of daily life...More
