Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visiting Grote Markt we stumbled upon this large and colourful sculpture (2016) of an overweight football fan standing next to a pile of poop and making an obscene gesture behind his back. The sculpture, by Bouke Schuemie, represents Harry, a lower-class comics character from The Hague, created by cartoonist Marnix Rueb (1955-2014) in the 1990s. We had never heard of this Harry, but he made us think of Onslow from the British 1990s comedy series “Keeping Up Appearances”. The sculpture is of little interest to tourists.

The Haagse Harry statue stands in tribute to the Dutch comic strip anti-hero Harry from The Hague. An unemployed, fouled mouthed working class stereotype, but ultimately one with a heart of gold. Not a must see, but a good bit of fun.

A statue of a.stylized cartoon character. I was told it is a humorous, self-deprecating look at denizens of Haag, but people from different countries seemed to find something familiar as they gazed at it with a smile..I sure did! Just watch out for his right hand gesture if you are with small kids and haven’t had that talk with them yet..

You can hardly miss this cartoon of a statue in Grote Markt.
It's big, rude and boorish with a sense of fun you might not have expected in Den Haag. I think it's fun. There are many more serious sculptures along the street. It's very enjoyable and doesn't demand much analysis.

A cartoon on The Hague Road. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm curious why this is in TripAdvisor. Ok it's art but.... NOT must see.

For someone who doesn't know "Haagse Harry", this statue means nothing. We were at the "Grote Markt" for a festival. It was a little bit eye-catcher because of the colour. As a tourist? no need to look for this statue, there is enough other things to see.

I stumbled upon this humongously humorous Haagse Harry statue while wandering around the Grote Markt area in the heart of The Hague. This popular comic character created by a local cartoonist, Marnix Rueb, is quite a celebrity here, with his big belly, casual tracksuit and oversized sneakers. Standing next to a poop, he is the stereotypical unemployed, foul-mouthed and obscene (note his middle-finger gesture) Hagenees guy wandering around the street while commenting on everything with his distinctive Haags dialect. The phrase "Kap nah! Lekkah belangrek!" etched on his shirt which translates to "Cut it out! Not important!" is a portrayal of his life's motto - life's too short for unnecessary fuss! This 2 metres tall and 3 tonnes statue is definitely one light-hearted attraction that will have visitors smiling.

Walking back to my hotel from visiting shopping areas and other attractions, I smiled when I saw it. Facing a wide busy street, it seemed to be having fun and just chilling out! Glad that I stumbled upon it'

When in The Hague, don't forget to pass by the statue of Haagse Harry. The Hague is usually known for its diplomats, expats and chic people, but of course there are also less wealthy, less educated people here. Haagse Harry is the humorous personification of the "lesser people" and proud of it!
