- vanessabK6664WXCambridge, United Kingdom24 contributionsGreat visitIt was very easy to get to the Kunstmuseum - the number 17 tram stops right outside. There was no queue to get in. There were a few school trips there, but the museum is big enough to avoid any big groups. I do not understand modern art and was mystified by some of the exhibits. I enjoyed seeing the Mondrian work and some Delft pottery is beautifully displayed in a wood paneled room. There was a piece of Black Delft which I have not come across before. Overall, I had a great visit and would recommend it. I visited between exhibitions, so some galleries were closed while they changed over. I asked about gluten free food in the cafe. Most of the food involved bread, so I had a very limited choice but could have had a tuna salad.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 6 October 2023
- Marla HSeattle, Washington20 contributionsA relaxed museumThis museum is so much larger than it appears. The staff were all pleasant with this 'only-English' speaker. Quite a variety of exhibits. The Hilma afKlint - Piet Mondrian exhibition was amazing. The cafe was pleasant and their food was tastyVisited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 October 2023
- Kit10 contributionsBeautiful Art MuseumI have been to the Kunstmuseum many times and it is always interesting and enjoyable. They have great temporary exhibitions and most of the written elements are usually in both Dutch and English. The Art Deco building itself is lovely. There is a permanent exhibition aimed at children/families and the exhibitions often have a treasure hunt or similar activity for children.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 March 2024
- Paul HSurrey, United Kingdom77 contributionsA mixed bag, but worth the visitI found the Kunstmuseum to be a bit of a mixed bag. There are 2 floors. On the ground floor there are large collections of glass and porcelain which lead you on to the large de stijl section, with both design exhibits and paintings by Mondrian, Doesburg, van der Leck and a number by Bridget Riley. The second floor had a large Max Beckmann exhibition and the rest of the permanent collection. I arrived about half an hour later than planned having struggled with the tram system, which is another story, so was a little pushed for time and in restrospect would have started on the second floor as I found this much more interesting. In all honesty I found the de Stijl section a bit too much, though there were some great Mondrians (Evolution is a stand-out). The Beckmann exhibit was great, and very well presented, but for me the permanent exhibition on this floor was the real highlight along with the area the gallery calls De Haagse School which is more traditional landscapes and some great realist works. You could really spend 3 or 4 hours here, but I was on a day trip from Amsterdam and wanted to also see the Mauritshaus so I probably didn't get the best experience. If you're doing the same I'd suggest doing some research of the layout of the Museum in advance as the little floorplan they give you when you arrive isn't much help.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 29 March 2024
- TUFC164 contributionsGreat day outWe spent over three hours at this museum . Given the cost we felt it very good value. The museum is a mixture of permanent and temporary exhibitions . Both are included in the entry price . . We firstly did the delft section which was really interesting particularly the rooms which were decorated like the rooms in houses . Then we had a coffee in the central courtyard which has been roofed and a great place to sit. They had a Strandbeeste hanging from the roof. It's worth watching the video. These contraptions move along the beach by wind power After coffee we did the Modrian et al section which I found very interesting. As the person less interested in modern art than my partner I was not expecting to enjoy it but I did . Including the smells to go with the rooms he lived in. Also enjoyed the Budget Riley exhibition where she has picked Modrian works which have influenced her Then lunch of soup and apple cake and we did the Hague artists and modern section . Enjoyed how pictures with similarities were placed next to each other rather than by date or artist which made you think The building itself it also greatVisited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 June 2024
- robert d6 contributionsOutstanding quality and value for moneyA wonderful experience. Iconic art, well laid out and informative. In addition to the expected De Stijl and Mondrian works the temporary exhibitions were interesting and of high quality. The galleries were spacious as was the refectory. A little way out from the centre but well worth the walk. My only criticism was the entrance wasn’t clearly marked.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 June 2024

The collection of Alphonse Mucha was really nice but the service of the staff was bad. This wasn’t the first time I was treated bad at this museum. Last time I showed my ticket and somehow she assumed I had not paid and wanted me to pay again but I had bought a ticket online and was allowed to go to the entrance. She screamed at me. Today I showed our tickets on the phone and QR code. Normally they just scan the code and I assume if it’s not right they will see that but I had valid tickets and they wanted to scan the QR code or so I assumed. He wanted to see the complete ticket. Okay fine but he told me that some don’t pay and he had to see everything and then he scrolled to my phone(hello not covid proof and I had saved the tickets to photos so he saw my personal photos). I just don’t like that they assume you might not have paid and then lecture me(and the way they said it and looked at us) I paid and I could show the tickets both times so why do they treat me like someone who would lie their way into a museum? Absolutely hate the service and way they talk to you in this museum. Not customer friendly

This is one of my favourite museum in the Nederland. The museum has a huge collection of wonderful works of art. Anyone who is passionate about art should visit this place. I spent over 5 hours in it and I feel that I could come back there again and see more.

We went to the Kunstmuseum on a Sunday morning as soon as it opened at 10.00. It has a wonderful collection of artifices and runs a number of special exhibitions at the same time for which there is no additional charge. We enjoyed the Grayson Perry exhibition and the Strandbeesten ( beach monsters). The museum is large and small enough to have an enjoyable morning wit a nice coffee in the middle. Highly recommended.

First of all, the building is beautiful. It's a piece of art itself. The layout is complicated so finding exhibitions is sometimes a bit of challenge.
You will find work here by famous artists like Mondrian, Kandinsky, Picasso and Van Gogh.
If you like the current exhibitions it's a must visit!

Never visited the Kunstmuseum before, but it is actually quite nice! The Mondriaan exhibition was quite well laid out showing the progression of the artist in fine detail. The best was of course the exhibition of the Strandbeesten which visitors could move all by themselves. Also the atelier is worth a visit to make something nice with kids.

nice looking building, inside. i was there recently for the balenciaga exhibit and it was well worth it. there is an interactive exhibit for preteens in the basement(i enjoyed it, as well) and their house, modern art exhibit, which was also enjoyable. the cafe has seating in a large, enclosed courtyard with a glass roof. it must be a lot of fun to be in when there's a rainstorm. especially since it's not far from the sea. it would probably be fun to see it snowcovered, as well.

Wonderful exhibits that are well laid out. The museum building is an art exhibit in itself; filled with light that enhances the exhibits. The cafe is lovely and again light filled. Staff were rather surely; at times I felt stalked and under surveillance.

I wandered through most of the rooms because it has to be one of the emptiest art museums I've ever visited. the Delft porcelain I could look at with nobody there - it is amazing. I could sit in front of a Monet, a van Gogh, and some amazing paintings with nobody there. some of the paintings and exhibits are 1960s and 70s modern art which are not great but there are originals by MC Escher which are fabulous.

Is er voldoende parkeergelegenheid rond het museum? I.v.m. Corona willen we niet met het OV.

How close is this Museum to the Vredepaleis (Peace Palace). We want to visit both in one day.

Yes, it's about a 20 minute walk. It's worth it, you'll see some beautiful houses on your way. Have a great time!

Hi, I'm planning a visit to the museum, mainly to see the collection of expressionist art. I was wondering how many pieces are actually on view of the over 900 listed on the museum site. Thanks.
