The Mauritshuis is home to the very best of Dutch Golden Age painting. The compact, yet world-renowned collection, is situated in the heart of The Hague, right next to the government centre. Masterpieces such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.

We live in the Hague and visit the Mauritshuis frequently - it was apparently built as a royal residence and stepping into each gorgeous room you feel as if a king or queen might step around the corner any moment. Guides are helpful and knowledgeable, the museum is always in perfect condition and well-run and the restaurant is delicious and... More

Mauritshuis, home of the Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, also has room after room of old masters in an accessible arrangement. You can see Rembrandts, Paulus Potters, Rubenses and Holbeins. And if you're lucky the visiting show in the exhibition rooms will have more (the day I was there, British Queen's collection was on show with yet another Vermeer.... More

This museum will take your breath away. Each room has a treasure - which might be a painting you have seen copies of in all sizes or another that is totally unknown to you. The museum makes you feel apart form crowded tourists places even though this is a one of the top places to visit in the Hague.

This museum holds some amazing paintings. The building is modern in the reception area but that if a lovely Manor House in the rest. There are quite a few stairs up to the top floors where the best works of art hang but their is an elevator. The audio guide was snaking with a big screen and additional pictures or... More

Lovely museum. A lot to see throughout a relatively small area. Definitely worth getting audio guides but that is a personal preference.

On our recent trip to Holland we visited many museums, for me this was a highlight. Was not crowded at all - spent ten minutes in front of girl with a pearl earring and laughing boy and left completely enchanted. Wonderful, albeit small, collection with time to enjoy.

Anyone interested in art should visit the Mauritshuis. The building is beautiful, with damask wall hangings in each room, and the art outstanding - the best of the Flemish masters with highlights such as The Rubens/Breughel joint Paradise collaboration, seascapes, still lives, the Fabritius Gold Finch etc etc. Spacious, and very well lit so you get maximum enjoyment.

I wanted to visit the Maurtishuis for a very long time and finally the day was there. We enjoyed the lovely building together with the paintings. We especially enjoyed the paintings of Rembrandt, de Stier from Potter en Het meisje met de Parel from Vermeer.

The regular collection is of such high standard that it can match the Rijksmuseum. Sure; there is no Nachtwacht, but several other Rembrandts make up for that. A bunch of paintings by Johannes Vermeer, Paulus Potter, Jan Steen, Anthonie van Dyck, Willem van de Velde, Frans Hals, Jacob and Salomon van Ruijsdael and Peter Paul Rubens ensure a rightful place...
