Started out as a commercial venture to attract crowds for an experience with a trompe d'oeil, it grew into an art phenomenon that combines the experience of being thrown back to a place as it existed more then a hundred years ago and an artwork of great dimensions with a special history. Officially the museum is still private with 33... More

Took my parents here, they were ecstatic, I was a bit less moved. Nonetheless, i would heartily recommend seeing this massive painting. The introduction to mesdag made him seem like a thoroughly privileged so and so, but the video on the restoration of the panorama was intriguing. And the panorama itself, well personally i don't think it was worth restoring,... More

There are only 2 or three of this kind of panoramas in the world, and this is one of the best. If you are into optical illusions: GO! The romantic image of 19th century Scheveningen (try to pronounce it!) is enchanting and overwhelming

Panorama Mesdag is one of the 20 remaining panorama paintings in the world. The painting is detailed and portrays very well what was going on in the area around 140 years ago. The staff in the museum is extremely attentive to visitors and children are especially engaged. Definitely a pleasant experience!
