I have traveled extensively around the world. As a single female, I felt completely comfortable on John's tours. I took 2 entire day tours with John of the Hague and Delft. I have never been to either place before. He not only showed me the common points of interest, but also showed me historical points of interest and other points of interest that I did not know about. He really knows the history, architecture, geography, and all the places you want to see in The Hague and Delft. He adjusts his tours to fit the interests of those on the tour. He also adjusts his walking pace to meet the needs of the people on his tours. His instruction on how to get to The Hague and to Delft and where to meet were very clear. Being from England, his English is perfect and I could clearly understand everything he said. I felt his prices were very reasonable for the value of the information he provided. I strongly recommend him.

I cannot say enough good things about our tour of The Hague and Delft with John Rice. I highly recommend touring these two cities and the experience will be made all the better if you tour with John. His wit and wisdom are worth every Euro. Our tour with John was one of the highlights of our recent trip to Europe.
John’s communication was prompt, clear, specific, and detailed throughout the process of arranging a date for touring, identifying priorities and sites we wanted to see, and confirming the details closer to the date.
My husband and I were visiting Amsterdam and, having been there before, I thought it would be nice to use one of our days to visit Delft. When I came across John’s website, I thought: Why not see The Hague as well? I am so glad that we did! There is much to see in both places and John brings what you are seeing to life. We could have walked around both cities on our own, but the history and stories that John shares take the experience to another level.
In addition to his knowledge of history, art, and culture, John brings a local’s experience to planning your tour. For example, John highly recommended visiting the Panorama Mesdag while in The Hague. I looked it up online and it sounded interesting. I was not prepared, however, for how awe-inspiring and unique the panorama would be. I have never seen anything like it! John was absolutely right to recommend it and it is something I would likely have missed without his experience. John also easily navigates the cities, tram, and train station, as well as recommended an excellent location for lunch.
John wants you to enjoy your day—he knows how to navigate key sites and will make recommendations (such as the Panorama Mesdag), but he will accommodate any requests you might have. I very much wanted to go to the Mauritshuis to see Girl with the Peral Earring. No problem! We added an hour in the museum, during which John offered expert interpretation of key pieces and the museum itself. We wanted to visit the porcelain factory in Delft—also no problem; we added another hour and John gave us an excellent overview of its history and process. (These plans were arranged ahead of time.) We were with John for nine hours, during which he never lost his enthusiasm or energy.
John Rice is an exceptional guide. He brings his expertise and passion to guiding you, will offer suggestions, but also listens to your wishes and plans a tour that suits your pace. If you are up for a longer day of touring both The Hague and Delft, I highly recommend it, but whatever you decide to see, see it with John!

We had such a great tour with John! He made a special program for us so that we could enjoy most of the monuments and museums in a short time, even planning some fun activities that could suit our two-year-old boy. We had the best time with him! It was a unique experience to be guided through The Hague by him. He's very nice, organized, thoughtful and passionate, and he shared many great stories about the city. We strongly recommend this tour!

This time we decided to tour The Hague harbor and beach area known as Scheveningen. We kneVisiting South Holland again, this time we decided to tour The Hague harbor and beach area known as Scheveningen. We knew John from previous tours, and once again he expertly guided us with history and humor, this time for a few hours along the Marina with its collection of luxury yachts, sport fishing boats, and all, to the Fishing Harbor itself to see the small fleet of North Sea Trawlers. John chose a local fish restaurant and we had some of the freshest fish you could imagine. After lunch we went via the Beach Boulevard to look at the North Sea (a bit cold at this time of year) and so we went into the old fishing village itself to see the old church and some small fisherman’s houses. On John's advice we also went with him for a full day to Rotterdam to see it's amazing Architecture. We went inside the Architectural Institute as well as wondering at the new Depot museums. Later we visited inside the incredible Cube-Houses and Market Hall which are not to be missed too. His local knowledge took us past lots of boats from the Maritime Museum, and a walk across the Erasmus bridge over the powerful river Maas for a fantastic lunch at Hotel New York before taking an exciting water taxi on the river too. We ended up at the Rotterdam City Hall where John was able to organize a Private Tour for us as well; finally John come with us on the train back to The Hague making it a day we will never forget. We can now recommend John for Tours in The Hague, Delft, or Rotterdam.

We are residents of The Hague and decided to take my mum on a tour with John as she was visiting for the weekend. John showed us so many interesting places we would never have found or noticed on our own, and told a very engaging story of the city that had us amazed and inspired. He is a top tour guide and does everything in a friendly and fun way, so you will never be bored and he will challenge you to look for details on buildings to try to figure out what their story is. Completely worth his asking price for an afternoon of knowledge and storytelling.

My husband and I booked this walking tour as part of our trip to Amsterdam and the Netherlands. John provided us with an exceptional experience that started with him meeting our train at 9:30 a.m. and ending in the early evening by a local restaurant where we enjoyed a meal before heading back to our hotel.
We walked about 9 miles that day, but it was worth every minute. John shared so much information and history with us that we simply would not have received on our own. The highlights for us included seeing "The Girl with the Pearl Earring," by Johannes Vermeer and "The Gold Finch," by Carel Fabritiusat at Mauritshuis, both iconic and beautiful pieces of art. John also took us to Panorama Mesdag, the largest panormic painting in Europe. Coming up the top of the stairs to view this was breathtaking.
My husband and I are huge history buffs which we shared with John. He started the tour by sharing the history of The Hague and its founding by the House of Orange-Nassau walking through the grounds of the palace. We also wanted to see the Peace Palace due to the legal and historical significance of it, so John also arranged for us to go the grounds. We also walked to the mansions occupied by the Nazis during WWII and was able to see the scarring in the trees caused by barb wire that was wrapped around them.
John is very knowledgeable having lived in The Hague for over 30 years (originally from Britain). He was very personable and funny. Throughout the day, John would encourage us to pose for photos in great locations around The Hague. There was so much that we saw that day (too much to list!) and he made it a day we will not soon forget. He ended the trip with some nice tokens from the area, which added a special touch to end the day.

It was a great pleasure to show you my home town and super that you liked my Sights and Stories so. The Art with my Artistic insights when hardly anyone else is about in the museum helps makes for an unforgettable visit indeed. It would be super to meet you both again one day and perhaps we can Tour Delft and Rotterdam together as well !

John was a brilliant tour guide. Besides showing you the normal touristy sights of the city, he showed us a few unusual sights as well. The Nutts bank being one of them. Old safety deposit vaults, huge bank vaults and a vault to secret away bank officials if the bank was robbed. The private gardens of the Romanoff princess and the beautiful interior of the Hotel des Indes were tour highlights.
On our request, John also gave us a guided tour of Mauritz house, with insightful comments on many of the artworks.
Highly recommended.

John was the most knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and warmest tour guide I’ve experienced. We traveled with him through Delft and then to The Hague. He not only lives there and loves those places; he is incredibly knowledgeable about their history and art, past and present. This is THE person you want for your tour!!

In addition to the great couples tour of the sites and sounds of The Hague, I had the opportunity for a unique solo experience of a trip to the Overloon WW2 museum. John orchestrated every last detail. He rented a car for the 2 hour drive and provided coffee and snacks for the ride and even packed a lunch for us. That roast beef sandwich on John’s home baked bread was delish! John pre purchased the entry tickets to ease the process. We toured the museum which was more than you could see in 1 day. It was a great experience. John is friendly, knowledgeable and we enjoyed good conversation throughout the tour and car ride door to door from and to my hotel. I recommend John to anyone visiting The Hague area that are looking for their own private customized experience at a comfortable pace!

Hi Larry,
Super of you to write such a detailed review and indeed it was a pleasure for me to spend 3 days with you Touring The Hague, Delft, and the WW2 museum was really special. Thank you for sharing the stories of your dad and his great contribution and it was a surprise for me to find out that my dad fought in the battle of Overloon too with his service as a gunner in a Sherman tank as part of the Black Bulls. See you again one day, maybe in Rotterdam perhaps, but in the meantime, kindest regards,
John
P.S. Maybe TripAdvisor are able to rotate your photo of a Sherman tank in the museums' D-Day diorama for us too(?)

If you ever consider spending some time in The Hague, call Tour The Hague to show you around! Tour guide John is originally from the UK but he has lived in this city for so many years that he has become the best guide in town. Even those who live in The Hague are surprised by his knowledge and the stories about the places he will show you. John is very flexible and has several options to choose from. And he can show you nearby Delft -the city of Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring- too. Highly recommended!

Hi John, Are you available to guide my husband and me on a day-long tour of The Hague on either May 17, 18, 19 or 20. I'm guessing, however, that it would be better to visit the Peace Palace on a week day, correct? We would love to see the court in session, if that is possible. We're retired newspaper journalists and are interested in politics, history and art. You have received sensational reviews. I hope that we can make this work. Many thanks. I look forward to hearing from you.
