Description:

Escher at the Palace is dedicated to the work of Holland’s most famous...

Escher at the Palace is dedicated to the work of Holland’s most famous graphic artist M.C. Escher. Nearly all his prints are exhibited, among them Belvedere, Drawing Hands, Waterfall and Ascending and Descending. Here you can see how Escher changed fishes into birds, made water flow upstream and his less known, but very attractive early Italian landscapes. On our main- and first floor you can see how his work progressed from depicting the real world to his constructed worlds. Optical illusion is a key word in his work.An optical illusion depicts something which is in fact impossible. M.C. Escher was a master in this field. An optical illusion literally means doing puzzles with your eyes. The visitor will be able to unravel some of Escher’s mysteries like the Impossible Penrose Triangle by constructing one himself. The extra presentation “In the Eye of Escher” shows various themes in which Escher was involved, like reflection, perception and perspective.

Really enjoyed this museum on Escher's art and the interactive parts of the tour. The building that it is in was in a previous palace with chandeliers shaped as all sorts of animals and other articles.

Very nice to see once in your life, cause the drawings are really one of a kind. I like musea more when there is a lot interactive to do. And that's kinda less in here, but if you love to just watch there is more then enough to see.

We personally are excited about the Escher drawings and took this chance staying in The Hague to visit the Escher in Het Palais museum. His unique drawings with certain perspectives by putting three dimensional spaces down to two dimensional paper is just phantastic. So if you love those things then visit this museum.

Not being the biggest Escher fan, I went in with an open mind. Have to say I was positively surprised! The last floor is super fun. The staff is lovely and kind.

Admittedly I didn't know much about Escher prior to going to this museum so it was a nice surprise. As the name suggests, it is in a old royal palace (which is not huge) and the day we went the lines were long and the crowds thick. It was two-fold interesting to learn about Escher's work and see the history... More

Learned a lot about Escher's life and influences while getting up close and personal to original prints which both impressed and fascinated. Inspirational exposition of his work that beautifully bridges math and art. Top floor has interactive pieces that are fun and trippy! Tip: Download the free "izi travel" app in advance and bring your own headphones for the audio... More

Not your 'everyday kinda art' It requires you to stop and think, look a little longer and find out how the artwork is playing tricks on your mind.

I found it helpful to start right at the top of the museum and go down, thus taking in the child friendly hands on stuff first so that the pictures could be appreciated.

You start with a classical museum: an exhibition of his works with thorough explanation. Interesting! The real fun start upstairs: you can experience the crazy world of Escher!

I've been here several time since I was a young girl as a big Escher fan and you can take me here every day of the week. The explanations are well curated, you learn about the different stages of his work / life and the interaction is just amazing. I love this as an actual fan, but I would definitely... More
