I think one of the issues with this brewery is essentially you are experiencing the restaurant across the road, not a brewery per se. Yes, the crowd at cafe trappistan is elderly, no you will not have a "brewery" experience,so take it for what it is worth. You can reach the cafe from central on bus 410. It's about 45... More

The Westmalle café is great. Awesome dishes, friendly staff, the best beer of course! After enjoying a nice meal, cross the street and head to the abbey. It is gonna be closed. Don't be shy, ring the intercom. They will let you in, and you can buy beer, cheeses ( go for the 6-month aged 😍). Make sure to walk... More

A nice café where you can enjoy some very good Westmalle trappist-beer. I tried the half & half dubbel/tripel, which is unique for the café, and it was a very good combo of beers. It is also possible to buy the beer on bottles, as well as the goblet glasses they serve the beer in.

Just in front of the abbey in the cafe, you can taste the real Trappist beer westmalle! My suggestion is to try the half triple half double beer to have an unique experience! Of course you cannot see the inside of the abbey due to the fact that monk there are living in seclusion! This is what it is special... More

Not being able to visit the brewery is not a real issue having a great brasserie on the other side of the main road. My favorite is the Tripel having the highest alcohol content & super taste. You can also go for the dark one or even have nice food of which some made with the famous beer. Cheers !!

You come to this place, located in front of the well-known Westmalle Abbey, known better for its fabulous Trappist-beer (double dark and Triple are my favourites). Not an extraordinary venue but a decent brasserie/cafe/resto where you'll enjoy a nice Trappist-beer with some Westmalle-cheese ... In case you're in for some more ... why not try the very tasty Westmalle-cheese croquets... More

The Westmalle brewery does not allow visitors, so you're left with a restaurant that serves Westmalle beer. We got to the restaurant around 5pm. There were plenty of tables available. Everyone was drinking a Westmalle beer, but was very quiet...mainly because most people were closer to 60 years of age and they were there with their long-time spouse. The Westmalle... More

Here you can drink the real Trappist Van Westmalle. It even seems (so they say), that there is a special direct line with the beer from the abbey.

Everybody who considers peace and quiet as beneficial is welcome to come for a few days for contemplation and prayer. The guest facilities are concentrated on individual retreat or reflection. If you are interested in a few days of contemplation like this and want to follow the schedule of the monks to a certain extent, then contact the guest brother.... More
