    Interesting museum
Antwerp's Museum Aan de Stroom (MAS) is a cultural gem. The stunning architectural design draws you in, and once inside, you're treated to a treasure trove of art, history, and culture. The exhibits are thoughtfully curated, showcasing Antwerp's rich maritime heritage and diverse heritage. But what truly sets MAS apart is the panoramic view from its rooftop. It's a breathtaking vantage point over the city, offering an unparalleled perspective of Antwerp's beauty. A visit to MAS is a sensory and intellectual delight, combining art, history, and a spectacular skyline view that's not to be missed.

    Amazing modern museum
Stunning modern building, very well thought out and laid out museum. Views from the terrace on the 10th floor were incredible. We only visited two out of the many exhibitions, but they were very well curated. For me it kind of summed up the Antwerp vibe (although I only spent half a day in the city, unfortunately).

    Great museum!
I had a great time at the Museum aan de Stroom. It is a beautiful building with a fantastic view of the city. The museum has an interesting collection of objects and stories that show the history and culture of Antwerp. I learned a lot about the port, migration, art and the diversity of this city. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this museum for anyone visiting Antwerp.

    Museum with a twist
Fabulous building clad in Indian red sandstone and decorated with the hand emblem of Antwerp. Each floor is rotated 90 degrees round from the last. Great views across the city from the top. Good hotdogs and nice staff in the ground-floor cafe. The permanent exhibitions don’t go for linear narratives but collections of artefacts, pictures and videos the give bite-sized impressions and make you think. Lie down on a bean bag and watch people’s thoughts on what constitutes “home”. The Antwerp at War section had heartbreaking vignettes of individuals and families and what happened to them. Most of the exposition is trilingual. Really well done and definitely worth a visit.

    Interesting museum
We enjoyed this museum, even if a bit disjointed in showing the city's history. Don't miss the 2nd floor, which is their storage area, but had a number of fascinating things on display. We skipped the special (extra cost) exhibit on the third floor. Sections 9n commerce, the war, and early history. The view from the top is great, and you only have to climb one floor (escalators cover the other floors). Spend some time enjoying the building from the outside

Getting to the top is not straightforward.
Yes the views are good from the top. We only went for those. However, it’s a long way to the top, via escalators, all the way to the 9th floor and then, just when you think you must be there - there is a flight of stairs to the roof. The view is almost as good through the wavy glass walls lower down, maybe even better. It’s a rather tiresome and twisty journey up. Apparently there is a lift for disabled people, if organised.

Fascinating displays on a range of topics including the museum’s collection and the history of the city.
This museum has a mix of free and paid for spaces. For free you can see the display on floor 2 about their collection plus access the roof panorama. The paid ticket gives access to the other floors. The displays are thoughtfully designed with a mix of text and audio guide context. We especially enjoyed the Antarctic display. The architecture of the building is incredible too.

I recommend to use the carpark under the hangar, next to the river. If you walk, it is a 20 minute walk from the cathedral. The square in front of the museum is clean, spacious and a nice area to hang out on a sunny day. There is a little bakers with Belgium sausage rolls. The service to buy tickets was efficient and friendly. There are escalators to each floor. I believe the viewing platform (terrace) is on th 10th floor and this last floor has no escalator. Not sure if there is a lift all the way up. This platform is free of charge and really nice views on a sunny day.
The exhibitions are spread out between different floors.
There is a cafeteria on the bottom floor, nice and not the cheapest, like all Belgium prices...
Definitely worth a visit.

It’s free to enter the museum and use the escalators to enjoy the panoramic views of the harbour and the city from each floor and the open space on top of the building.
We very much enjoyed our trip to the top of the building and the views. We decided to see what exhibitions were of interest on each floor on the way down before paying anything. We found that most were still at the preparation stage. We did enjoy one free exhibition, but we decided it was not worth paying the €12 each for the remaining exhibitions.

We started with the temporary exhibition of masterpieces from Flemish Collections. There were several beautiful works on display, with an interesting explanation. However, our experience was somewhat disrupted because 3 ushers were talking quite loudly the entire time, which was very disruptive when trying to listen to the explanation of the works with the audio guide.
Then we went to the floor about the food chain. The whole structure is quite confusing, with an unclear paper guide and there was too much noise there. Not only are there several speakers from which sound comes from the video images shown far away, but here too the ushers are talking quite loudly to each other. I was also surprised that after their conversation they each started scrolling on their mobile phone, is that ushers? I found the floor on the history of the port city to be the most fascinating of the permanent exhibitions. In the end, we had been inside for quite some time and so we took a quicker look at the works of art from pre-Columbian America. There were surprisingly old works of art on display here.
All in all, the temporary exhibition added value to our visit, without this exhibition I am not sure how much I would recommend the MAS. With a museum pass I wouldn't miss it, but Antwerp has several museums of (much) higher quality to offer: KMSKA, Snijders&Rockoxhuis and Mayer Vanden Bergh for example.

MAS is a must to visit in Antwerp. Every floor has a different exhibition and it can be fun for children and adults as well. The view is stunning and the building itself a work of art.
I did not like the fact that it was crowdy. This did not aloud me to observe the pieces of art as I wanted.
Nevertheless it is a nice museum to visit but try to avoid busy days like Sunday morning.

We ended up walking to the museum as we couldn't work out the public transport to the site. (We also know it is closed on Monday's). Worth the 12 euro entrance fee. Modern, accessible building with a nice cafe. Each floor needs a different amount of time so make sure you know what are your must sees. My favourite was floor 2 which was dedicated to artefact curation and packing. Others liked the more Antwerp specific stuff. The history of the Belgian organ was also fascinating.
Unfortunately when we got to the top floor and viewing area it was raining so we missed out on photos of the roof tops of Antwerp and the River Scheldt to the sea.
In summary, take your time, this museum is easy to rush and miss things.

Always nice to visit the MAS, the entrance to the building is free, just remember the entrance to the exhibits is not. Nice to picknick inside in front of one of the large windows or to take a look at the city of Antwerp on top. Watch out for temporary exhibitions ! They have a lot to offer.

Accessibility for less mobile people is an absolute shame!
There is a sign on the 2 (small) lifts stating that you are not allowed to use the lifts without supervision and that you can ask for information at the ticket counter.
We do that, response: "don't use the escalators", when I insist that one of us is less mobile and is not allowed to use escalators, the attendant, after some sighing, activates the elevator with his badge. Someone will be waiting for you on floor 3, he says. Ok, so far so good, we are met and escorted to the exhibition. When I ask how we get to another floor, the answer I get is that I have to ask the security staff on site. When we leave the room, we are back at the escalators and there are no staff anywhere to be seen. Fortunately, someone with a badge and a coffee in hand is just walking by, that lady walks with us to the elevators, activates the elevator for floor 8 and gets in. I hear her on her radio asking floor 8 to wait for visitors at the elevator. The lady herself gets out of the elevator on floor 7, we continue upstairs. At 8 we get out and stand in a concrete core without windows and with some badge-locked wooden doors. No staff anywhere, no bells or anything. We then start banging on the doors until someone opens it. We are welcomed with "you are not allowed to use the elevators alone, what are you doing?" When I explain what happened and say that they were warned by radio after all, the man says "yes, that is a concrete building here." and the radio doesn't always work... and we also have too few staff. Our desire to visit the MAS even further was completely over after these fantastic welcomes, we asked to be put back in the elevator to the exit and went home!
THANK YOU MAS!

The musuem is friendly to students, travelers families etc. You can explore inside the building without buying a ticket to a museum. Cafe inside, bar downstairs, plenty of space to relax and enjoy. Breathtaking views and a very interesting experience each time I’ve been here.

On October 22, 2023 I tried to visit the MAS, but it turned out not to be possible. Opening hours Panorama 9.30 am - 24 / 22 hours Muzeum rooms 10 am - 5 pm.
I arrived at 2:30 PM, everything was darkened. After a few minutes someone came with the message that the cash register was closed (I'm not blind either), it was too late, my ICOM card had been presented. The desk clerk told me that I could still do the roof terrace, which seemed to be very popular with the assembled staff. (probably Antwerp humor for: you can go on the roof). Clarified that I really only came for one or two pieces from the exhibition. It was treated rather scornfully as the museum rooms closed at 4:45 PM. Be sure to inform him of opening hours. Answer: it's different on the internet. But just visited the harbor pavilion. Desk employees very obliging and helpful, a difference like night and day with the clutter of the MAS, which to me is the worst internationally, usually these people are very competent, reception experience so far. Supervision of this would be appropriate.
