The architecture is a masterpiece of Flemish Renaissance. It's a feast to the eye when the city hall is decorated with the many flags of the world. A visit inside will be difficult for the coming months due to restoration.

It is a beautiful building if watched from the outside. It is actually possible to enter the building and visit it but there is something you must plan.

We went in Feb 2016, it was not at all crowded. There were some police keeping watch over the building. Antwerp city gets its name from the statue of Silvius Brabo (a Roman soldier) throwing hand (hand werpen = hand throwing) in Flemish.

Even you can get inside only after veding, if you get the possibility to go there, do it. It is unforgetable experience even for people who doesnt like history.

This town hall was constructed after the big fire that ruined the earlier town hall at the same spot. The building has experienced happy and sad times, but is still the focal point of the locals for everything that has to be decided about "their city".

The townhall is a jewel of Renaissance and Barok styles harmoniously combined. It dominates one of the finest market places in Belgium, and offers splendid views of the Gothic cathedral and gild houses. Plenty of good restaurants nearby offer great Belgian gastronomy.

The Grote Markt in Antwerp is a splendid ancient centre of an outstanding Belgian (Flemish) city. Definitely a place to visit when touring Belgium along with Brugge and Brussels. There are a number of cafes in this market place but do try the myriad of side streets which have an eclectic mix of excellent places to eat and drink, some... More

Shared a private event with 80 or so colleagues attending a conference where we dined in a wonderful room surrounded by classic art. Stunning venue generally. Wonderful high quality (buffet) meal as well. Top quality service also.

Amazing town hall in one of the best squares in Europe. Nice the flags, amazing the statues, incredible the symbols. Wonderful above all at night, when the whole complex becomes magical.
