L'Envol (The Flight) is a statue by Tom Grantzen of Belgian singer Jacques Brel. It was unveiled at the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés in Brussels on 11 October 2017. The statue depicts Brel singing in front of a microphone opening his arms in passion. It's on the same small square as the Brel Foundation. The title L'Envol (The Flight) refers to the line "Mille fois je pris mon envol" ("A thousand times I took my flight") from Brel's song La Chanson des Vieux Amants. Jacques Romain Georges Brel (8 April 1929 – 9 October 1978) was a Belgian singer, songwriter, actor and director who composed and performed literate, thoughtful, and theatrical songs that generated a large, devoted following—initially in Belgium and France, later throughout the world. He is considered a master of the modern chanson. Brel is the third best-selling Belgian recording artist of all time. Allow ~ 15 + min for your visit.

The Jacques Brel (L'envol) Sculpture is an interesting monument located at Place de la Vieille Halle aux Bles. This is the work of of Belgian sculptor Tom Frantzen (2017) and depicts the 20th-century performer and entertainer passionately singing into a microphone with his arms stretched outward. It is fun monument worth finding and have a look-see when exploring this area of the city.

This statue stands in tribute to Jacques Brel, a Belgian singer and songwriter, also known for being an actor and director.
The statue depicts Jacques Brel suited and wearing a tie. He is standing behind a microphone, his lungs bursting, arms raised at the finale of his song. While I like the subject matter and pose, I can’t say I think much of the artist’s interpretation out Brei’s face, which is a bit toothy. One for the fans or locals I think.

My twin brother Stephen and I were heading to La Place De La Vieille Halle Aux Bles to visit some of the great bars in this square ,one of the main features of the square is this statue in
Honour of singer Jacques Brel .
Jacques Brel ( 1929-1978 ) was born in Brussels ( Schaerbeek ) , a poet, singer, songwriter, film star ,in his time a international star ,this statue shows the singer arms outstretched belting out a song,it's a great selfie opportunity and most definitely well worth checking out if you're near Place De La Vieille Hall Aux Bles.

You can't fail but notice this statue on La Place de la Vieille Halle de Bles, literally up the hill from Le Manequin Pis (controversially, a rather more disappointing sight IMHO). It's the singer and film actor, Jacques Brel, who was born in Brussels and it's in front of the Jacques Brel Foundation on the square. It makes random passers-by smile when they see it and people can't resist taking a quick photo. It's a nice square too: I sat and sipped a flat white on the terrace of the nearby Green cafe/flower shop. And it is literally a few minutes walk away from the scrum surrounding the Manequin Pis!

Jacques Brel Statue is a fitting monument to the international singer Jacques Brel and shows the singer in animated pose belting out one of his songs.
Jacques brel ( 1929 _ 1978 ) was born in Schaerbeek,Brussels and was a superb poet, songwriter, film star and international singing superstar who was the pride of Belgium and it was just so good seeing a statue to this amazing talent.
I like everyone else who passed this statue took some photos as it's such a cool looking statue and is easy to locate on Place De La Vielle HalleAux Bles in an area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants and some amazing architecture.
A great and fitting fitting statue and monument to a great performer and well worth checking out if your in the area.

I admit that I had never heard of him but I read that he was a French-speaking Belgian singer-songwriter, composer and poet. This beautiful statue by the sculptor Tom Frantzen (author, among other things, of other particular statues in Brussels). To photograph.

Jacques Brel left his mark and remains an inimitable artist. A tribute was paid to him in the form of a very expressive statue showing the artist standing and singing with his arms outstretched. The work was created by Belgian artist Tom Frantzen in 2017 and is located on the Place de la Vieille Halle aux Blés.
