Arcade du Cinquantenaire is a gorgeous triple arch, commissioned by Leopold II of Belgium. It's an amazing structure set in beautiful gardens, with the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces & Military History right next door. On each side are stunning colonnades. It's a major landmark & definitely worth visiting.

The Arcades du Cinquantenaire is a triumphal arch in Parc du Cinquantenaire. Like most triumphal arcs, the arch is topped with a quadriga, in this case with a woman charioteer representing the Brabant. The province where Brussels is located. Extending from each side of the arch are colonnades decorated with mosaics.

Arcades du Cinquantenaire is a major landmark of Brussels and definitely worth visiting when in the city.

King Leopold II ordered to finish the construction project by 1905 for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Belgium’s independence. (The original plan was to complete the project in 1980 to celebrate to 50th independance). Four hundred fifty workers took turns working around the clock. After eight months, the project was finally completed and the park was inaugurated on September 27, 1905.

The Cinquantenaire arcade is built of blue stone and concrete. It measures 40 meters high and 60 meters wide. On top of the monument is a bronze sculpture of a quadriga driven by a woman carrying a flag. This work of art represents the Brabant province of Belgium while eight other sculptures resting at the foot of the monument represent the eight other Belgian provinces. The Kingdom of Belgium was originally composed of nine provinces until 1995 when Brabant was divided into Flemish Brabant and Walloon Brabant.

These gates are architecturally beautiful. There are three arches and at the very top is a bronze four horse chariot ridden by a woman charioteer, representing the Belgian province of Brabant and holding the Belgian flag. There is also a lot of other symbolism represented in all of this. It's a great image. The area is beautiful. You can see the gates as you approach from the far end of Parc du Cinquantenaire. On either side there are buildings housing Military and art museums and other showrooms. This is definitely worth a visit.

It’s a terrific monument. Arguably one of the most iconic of the city. It’s tall, mighty, and terrific for pictures. I highly recommend visiting as I think it stands out as a true beauty in the city.
