History of Brussels

The exterior of the building is a masterpiece, and the interior tells the history and cultures of Brussels. It also houses the mannequin pis costumes.

Not sure how many people know that the Mannequin Pis is 'dressed up' for different occasions and countries. He is and many of the costumes are on display in this museum. It is worth a visit just to see them!

The museum has a number of artifacts and displays about the history of the city. There are some interesting items, but no descriptions in English so not the most informative for non-French/Flemish speakers. The top floor has the Mannequin Pis costumes which was fun to see. Luckily the museum was free the day we went, otherwise I don't know if... More

Interesting museum about Brussels, free access with the Brussels Card. You can connect to the museum wifi and get the audio guide for free which is really convenient to understand more about that great city! On the 2nd floor, you'll be able to see the 2 original versions of the Manneken Pis and a lot of his outfits, from Belgium... More

Excellent collection of costumes that have been worn by the famous Manneken Pis statue in Brussels. Good displays on the history of the city of Brussels. Also interesting to see inside the restoration workshop for the major multi-year preservation work of a tapestry carton, a paper based tapestry template, from the 17th century. All captioned in Dutch and French, but... More

Didn't research this before going so it was a pleasant surprise especially as the entrance was free on the day we visited. Apart from learning about the history of Brussels, there is a nice collection of the pissing boy statue (Manneken Pis) dressed in the national costumes of many countries. The main square outside the museum is very touristy with... More

This museum gives the visitor a fascinating insight into the history of Brussels. There is a large amount of artwork on display, along with artefacts, photos and models relating to Brussels' interesting past. An audioguide is available in numerous languages and is well worth the extra couple of Euros. The display of Manneken Pis costumes is great!

Central location, fantastic building and the collection of costumes for Manneken Pis is very nice to see. Unfortunately the organization is from the same time as Leopolds colonization of Congo. If you don't speak french, its a waste of time to see the museum. If they respected the fact that english is a quite common language, it would take a... More
