Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My friends and I love the opera, and this is one of the most beautiful opera venues in Europe. The performance was outstanding as well. The only issue we found (coming from Miami), was the heating system. It was November and was cold outside but it was burning inside the building. We were sweating the whole time.

This opera house is the basis for the origins of Belgium. It was here after the opera “The Dumb of Portici” that all hell broke loose and ended in the independence of Belgium.
The building has a facade like a Greek temple, but is a real icon, especially indoors.
A very beautiful hall with 6 floors and the foyers are all gems.
Beautiful historic building, the opera “The Tale of Tsar Zlatan” was much less appealing to us, with the exception of “The Flight of the Bumblebee” which was part of this piece of music by Rimsky-Korsakov.
This will not stop us from returning.
A visit to the opera is a real event, the opera itself is only a part of it.

It's a pity we didn't see the interior. The building used to house the National Mint. Today, the Belgian National Opera, a federal institution, is named after the building it occupies. Therefore, de Munt/la Monnaie refers to both the structure and the artistic institution.

La Monnaie is the Belgian Opera House. The building is very beautiful with exquisite architecture. The history of the building goes quite a long way back, as far as the 17th century. The Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (in French), or The Koninklijke Muntschouwburg (in Dutch), is one of the most well known Opera Houses in Europe and around the world. It is absolutely worth visiting. It does not fail to impress! We visited the area several times, during our week long stay in Brussels, and just admired the beauty of the structure.

If you were wondering about the view from the absolute back row in the nose bleeds section of the auditorium (I'm talking about the last floor of the opera house) I can tell you that you'll have no problem seeing everything on stage and hearing everything crystal clear, also they have subtitles in French and Dutch up there as well.
HOWEVER if you are above 175 cm in length I would strongly advice against buying a seat in any of the rows in this part of the opera. It is extremely cramped up there leg room wise, and I do mean extremely. My knees were almost covering the line of sight of the woman sitting in front/underneath of me, that's how bad it is, But then again, if you manage to book a seat at the very beginning or very end of the row, you'll be able to sit quite comfortably, So I say again, don't try one of these seats if you're above 1,75 in height or if you are over-weight, have knee issues or poor blood circulation in your legs.

Le Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie("La Monnaie" - or, in Dutch, Koninklijke Muntschouwburg ("De Munt") - or in English "The Mint") is Brussels' main opera house. It is also supported by the Belgian Federal Government - the Belgian revolution (for independence from the Netherlands) started here during a performance of La Muette de Portici (by Daniel Auber) on 25 August 1830.
The opera house had to be rebuilt following a fire in 1855, but the result is still one of the great opera houses of a European capital city. It also hosts ballet and dance performances. Forthcoming performances can be found at http://www.lamonnaie.be

Many classic opera houses in Europe have had works to enlarge their working capacity.
La Monnaie is one of those.
The roof is much higher than it used to be. Large dance studios are now under this new roof.
The famous dancer/choreographer Maurice Béjart worked in this theatre for many years.

The theater "Theatre Royal de la Monnaie", short "La Monnaie", is a real wonderful opera house. But the surrounding square is simply ugly.

The neoclassical style of the front of the building makes you stop and have a look at this pretty architecture from 1818.
You can book one of their guided tours to have a look inside and to learn how an opera house works.

Hi guys,
Just wondering if you can go inside this at all without paying admission fees - just to have a look around?
Thanks in advance!
