Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you love collecting almost any kind of household item you can imagine, from funky 70sfurniture to records to china to jewellery to books, antiques, the list could go on and on, this market has to be one the best places in Europe to visit. It opens at 6am and runs to 2pm, 365 days a year normally. Most of the stuff looks as though it comes from house clearances, and if you’re prepared to rummage, bargain and pay cash, you should bring plenty of bags and expect to stagger away with your arms full. We absolutely love it, and if we lived in Brussels we would be there every week. When you need to take a break there are lots of cafes around the square. If you’re a serious collector or just a browser, set aside several hours to see everything. It really is a true flea market filled with second hand goods, so leave your best clothes and designer handbag at home and bring cash, not cards.

Lots of rummaging through boxes looking for undiscovered treasure, haggling with sellers (some just insisted on ridiculous prices) and ferrying my purchases back to the hotel. Friday market was laid back and reasonable. Saturday was a different kettle of fish- way bigger, much busier and the sellers were a lot less inclined to lower their prices. But in terms of an off-season flea market with a reasonable amount of good quality vintage, I was very pleasantly surprised.

at the top...justice. the palace...of pure Leopold with its African atrocities, below the people...the ball game square and all its neighborhood. it is the history of Brussels but also of Montmartre for Paris, with the Sacre Coeur placed there by Napoleon III. so yes Brussels is expensive, it has become gentrified, the common people have left, Ixelles, Waterloo, even further away, but the flea market has kept its authenticity like Lille. I like. even if French reading cafés are becoming increasingly rare, and waterzoi is becoming more and more expensive

I have gone to many flea markets and antique markets in my time. Nothing prepared me for this. Most "booths" were literally piles of boxes filled with junk dumped on the ground. Filthy and items not even worth digging through. Vendors smoking pot in the middle of it all. Suffice it to say picking up tetanus from rusty junk while getting an unwanted contact high is not my idea of fun early in the morning. Some booths (few and far between) were set up nicely and i hope they get some business. Went on a Tuesday so wonder if other days are better.

In the middle of the Maroles (pls see specific article) sits this medium-large square.
If you go there during the week, you will wonder why it is mentionned on Trip Advisor. Nothing around is interesting apart from some cafés where you can drink a cool beer and chat with the locals.
Nevertheless, if you choose Sunday morning, you will visit a fairly large flee market with all kinds of objects. If yoy intend to buy an object, please don't disappoint the seller : you HAVE TO bargain. Even it is old-fashioned in modern societies, here it is part of the game.

The flee market was very unimpressive compared to others we visited in Europe it was really junk stuff and not much worth buying. It was the only place that we felt threatened with regards to pick pockets in Europe. Not worth the walk in my opinion buy if you really want to go there get there early as it shuts up at about 10 or 11 am.

A lovely, characterful market. It’s not a market for arts & crafts or for fake designer clothing. It’s more for interesting trinkets like photos, old lace, candlesticks, watches and furniture. The items are mainly either broken or ‘well-loved’ depending on your romantic sensibility. I bought a lovely vintage tin with a printing set inside. So it all depends on your taste. If you can, visit on a weekend as there will be more to see and certainly more places to eat and drink. I went on a weekday. It was still well worth the visit but it’s a little harder to satisfy your belly and well as your eyes.

I have been going to this flea market since I was a little boy and it still is a great experience... I now go with my wife and friends and we still are charmed by the local bohemian feel about it. Most tourists know this market from week ends in Brussels but it goes on every day as from the early hours till noon. You used to be able to discover great quality finds and - if you were very lucky - some real antiques but those days are over. However, in the streets around the square you can still find some "real stuff" - there are many antique and interior shops around. Do have a beer in one of the local bars, if you're lucky you'll hear some of the real Marolliens (the name of the people living in that quarter of town) sing folksongs in the Brussels dialect. There are also some nice little restaurants and this makes for a great starting place on a lazy Sunday.

Here it is, the place where Tintin found the Unicorn Ship! Ok, this is the story of the comic book, but it is a place where you will find a flea market like in the film!
The flea market is open every morning from 06am to 02pm and till 3pm during the week-end.
What I love in this place is that you will find a place full of local people and my advice is that you should go into a cafe. This is a place where there are plenty of authentic cafes!
