Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This main historic city hall is located in the main square of mons,

We were only here on a short visit so only visited here once. It’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The Hotel de ville is the Town Hall of Mons, and the most important building of the Grand Place. Built in the 15th century, the town hall it dominates the Grand Place public square. The building itself looks like it could do with a clean, but otherwise it’s a nice example of Late and Northern European Gothic architecture. Especially noteworthy are the foliage decorations and highly regular and symmetric mullions on the windows of the front facade. The keystones of the ribbed vaults of the interiors are unusual, ending in scenes from everyday life.

Definitely worth visiting this building when in Mons.

There are loads of plaques on the walls telling you the history of the building and the connections to important people. The building is very well kept, the grounds are manicured and stunning, even the climbing plants are in excellent condition as you can see from the photographs. Definitely worth a visit

A great place to see the world go by. The Grand Place has many eateries and places to drink. You can even catch the odd wedding at the Hotel de Ville which is well worth a second look. It is a beautiful building.

Mons' Hôtel de Ville or city hall in English is definitely one of the most beautiful in the entire world. There is a little bronze monkey on the wall. Pat his head, it will bring you luck and good fortune. And don't forget to visit the garden of the mayor, just behind the building!

I viewed the outside only and have not been inside the Town Hall itself. See the plaques in the entrance archway of Mons Town Hall in memory of the 5th Royal Irish Lancers, the Canadian Corps and of the Americans for their food parcels sent during the occupation. There are also laminate tableaux, which summarise the events of 1914. Stroking the head of the brass monkey with one’s left hand at the archway entrance is supposed to supply good luck,

Mons' Hotel de Ville is the centrepiece of the sweeping Grand Place. A 15th century delight with a nice little garden tucked in behind it is worth a few minutes of your time. Also note the memorials in the entrance to the Canadians (who apparently recaptured the town from the Germans literally on the last day of the war), the Americans and the Irish. And don't miss the little monkey pointed out to us by the helpful waiter in our lunch restaurant - its on the outside wall to the left of the door and has been there for centuries, although nobody knows where it comes from. Supposedly it's lucky to stroke its head, particularly for women hoping to get pregnant!

The exterior of the building hints at the beauty inside and it doesn't disappoint. Richly appointed rooms are regal and simply stunning. The view of the Grand Place from the balcony is a definite highlight. Visiting hours are limited so check in advance before planning a visit.

This is a lovely 15th century building. The little details are delightful, such as the door lock and figures carved into the ceiling of the entry.
