De Sint-Martinuskerk is de hoofdparochiekerk van de stad Aalst en een stijlvoorbeeld van de Brabantse gotiek. Talrijke kunstvoorwerpen sieren de kerk, denk maar aan de schilderkunst van Pieter Paul Rubens of de beeldhouwkunst van Jeroen Duquesnoy. De kerk is gratis toegankelijk van maandag tot zondag van 09 tot 17 uur (op vrijdag tot 14 uur). Een rondleiding met gids in de kerk kan je boeken via Visit Aalst. Nog tot 2027 ondergaat de Sint-Martinuskerk een grootschalige restauratiecampagne. Hierdoor zullen sommige delen van de kerk soms niet toegankelijk zijn, bekijk de website voor de meest up-to-date informatie.

This typical example of high Gothic architecture was originally designed to be a full-fledged cathedral, but never made it much beyond the transept. That's why, at the western end of the building, the brick wall contrasts heavily with the traditional sandstone of all other parts. Many interesting sculptures and paintings to visit, of which the P. P. Rubens "St. Rochus and the Plague patients" is the top.

Most beautiful church in the city to visit, momentarily being renovated but you can visit. Gothic by origin, with some Baroque parts, and a imposant organ.

In the centre if a small provincial town, this church seemed to had the ambition to become a Gothic cathedral in it's own right. Time altered that dream. Ravaged by iconoclasts in the 16th century, damaged by fire, the church still hasn't lost all of it's grandeur. The interior is filled with beautiful wooden rococo furniture, a genuine Rubens, a sacrament tower by Duquesnoy, sculptor of Manneken Pis and much more. Take your time for a walk around, you won't be disappointed

In Brussels they have only one little statue made by Duquesnoy.
Here you will find several, and of better quality. Come and find them.
The altarpiece from Rubens also has a great history. During the French revolution it was robbed and exposed in The Louvre. The French only took the best pieces of art....

This church is being renovated but nonetheless is worth a visit. The most impressive painting is by P.P. Rubins. The big organ above the entrance door needs renovating. It is clearly a long term project requiring a lot of finances. Hope the government sees the need to preserve this monumental church for future generations.

Located just next to the city center square, the 'Old Church' is a must see. The architecture is impressive, as well as the art you can admire inside. For sure a stop to recommend when visiting Aalst!

This church has a big history. With the Industrial revolution Aalst was a poor city, were Socialists were batteling against the establishment and Priester Daens took the side of the poor people. The bisschop didn't like this Priest who was also against the way that the rich were misusing the poverty of the population. In this church, Priester Daens did a lot of good for the people, also in his speeches. The church is located near the big Market of Aalst, who is full of historical buildings. You should visit this beautifull little city...the second biggest City of East-Flanders after Ghent!

The church, one of the larger ones in Flandres, has still a few of the original ceiling paintings made around 1500. Further there are a few barok works of art, including a probable painting from the Rubens workshop and a sacristy tower. There is a helpful leaflet detailing what there is to see in the church. The church does only have a small tower.

This church is the oldest of the city Aalst. Locals call it the 'old church'. It's a nice building to see. Insight, there is a tableau painted by PP Rubens. An old Flemish master painter from the 17th siècle.
