The building from outside is just something else! We also took a guided tour inside (parts of) the building. It was good, but if you won't make the tour, it is also ok.

We had to wait a day for a reservation to tour inside the building, while it is fun to explore the exteriors, you wonder why and how this was built. The guide first explains details on the different periods of construction and what the problems encountered were solved. Once the interior stairway is reached the beauty of the place becomes... I was born in Leuven and I am still living near Leuven , in Vaalbeek .The tawnhall in the center of Leuven was build in the 15th century , in gotthic style. It's a real juwel !!!! I see it almost every week and I still think it's famous all over the world

The facade of the building is quite extraordinary and it is even more curious when you learn that, planned to have the myriad of sculptures on the exterior in the fifteenth century, it took until 1850-1900 for this intention to be realised. (This explains how Napoleon Bonaparte finds a place in one niche.) Inside I found the building less interesting... More

We purchased one of the all in visiting cards and during the booking process (in person at the KU Leuven Library where we conversed with the member of staff in English) were told which timeslot we were in but not that the only language options were French or Dutch; this we found out at the start of our tour. Whilst... More

Hi there, thanks for sharing your fair and honest feedback with us! We will rebrief our colleagues at the university library and other sales points about the importance of mentioning the language of the guided tour in the Town Hall. Our aim in the coming years is to make the tour self-paced as you propose. In the meantime we indeed... More

I see this building often on my travels to Leuven and it never ceases to make me stop and wonder at it's intricate detail. It is fantastic at night and especially beautiful on a snowy cold evening. Not to be missed!!

Why should you visit Belgium? Because it is the best kept secret in Europe. It is Europe in a nutshell, multicultural and multilingual. A rich bubbling vat of beer, chocolate, oil paint and bureaucrats. Belgium gives off the heady pong of the bourgeoisie. But stir the pot a little and you will find an “artificial state” roughly made up of... More
