Impressive medieval place

A good thing to do when in Leuven. Quiet and pleasant place on the edge of town. Good for a relaxing walk.

Sensitively restored, this whole area is well worth a walk round to soak up the atmosphere. The faculty club is excellent if pricey for food but there are cafes and bars very close by. With students around the place is quite vibrant but retains its medieval charm. I was particularly taken by the delicate chimes of the church bells. Try... More

The Great Beguinage dates from the 13th century. Has pretty cobble stone alleys, courtyards, gardens and parks. The Great Beguinage was listed as UNESCO world heritage in 1998. You can visit it free of charge.

No visit to Leuven without Groot Begijnhof is completed. It is absolutely astonishing! The atmosphere is wonderful there. Justa small tip for people with strollers, wheelchairs, high heels - it might be a bit hard to get through on cobble stones.

Not a museum in fact but a very well-preserved, beautiful, quiet neighbourhood. People still live here and there are signs telling you not to picnic on their lawns, etc. which I can understand completely. It was lovely to see the old architecture and the way the area was designed, and remains intact, today.

I have not heard about this medievial movement before. Idea od living in a self supporting group in peace and balance is well preserved on the organization od this place. It is geat that it is still lived in by students and professors. Very well preserved, with great attention to details. It is a walking distance from the marketplace probably... More
